How to add your POAPs to Metamask

By CryptoTjark | Long Horizon | 31 Jul 2021

Have you collected any POAPs yet?

POAP is short for Proof of Attendance Protocol. It's a digital collectible created as a NFT (non-fungible token) that is powered by the blockchain. You can get them for participating in events, attending community calls or live-streams, concerts and gallery openings, but they've also found adoption to mark special happenings as the Rekt Stoner Cat Minters.

At the moment POAPs are claimable on Ethereum Mainnet and the xDai Network. As a POAP is bound to a NFT, the minting process will cost you some ETH gas fees if you choose to claim it on Ethereum.
You can save on those and get your POAP minted on the xDai Network instead. With Ethereum 2.0 coming there will most likely be cheap ways to bridge your POAPs over in the future.

Disclaimer: This is only working in the mobile app so far. If you are using MetaMask on a computer, you can only look at your POAPs here.

Adding the xDai chain

If you haven't used the network yet you will have to add it to your MetaMask.

Tap the menu at the top left corner of your screen and choose settings.

Navigate to the MenuEnter the Settings

Navigate to Networks and tap on Add Network.

Tap on NetworksFill in the information below

Fill in the following information:

How to add a POAP to Metamask

You are now able to choose the newly added xDai chain from the Network Tap of the homescreen.

Switch to the xDai chain

  • Put your finger on tab saying NFTs and tap on + Add NFTs.
  • Paste the POAP smart contract address into the Address coloum.

+ Add NFTsEnter the smart contract address and your token ID

The address depends on the network your POAP is on:
xDai chain: 0x22C1f6050E56d2876009903609a2cC3fEf83B415
Ethereum Mainnet: 0x22C1f6050E56d2876009903609a2cC3fEf83B415

  • Next you need the token ID of your POAP. If you don't know it yet, you can look it up.

This is pretty easy. Simply go to POAPscan and connect with MetaMask or enter your wallet address. Each of your POAPs has the same contract address but a different token ID.

Done! You should be able to view your POAPs in your MetaMask now. It's time to flex - feel free to show off in the comment section!
