As I stated in my last article, data security and privacy is an item that people are paying more and more attention to. They are looking for an alternative and considering different options.

But where is the difference and how can we be sure that we have chosen the right thing? Following recent events, I decided to further explore this topic.

• WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, which is known for user data mining which means personal info is not private. 
• In partnership with Facebook, WhatsApp can help advertisers target users based on their data.
• WhatsApp works for money, not for the users.
• Is popular, but is no longer up to 2021 standards.

• Signal is a non profit organisation that started in 2014. It runs on donations, not data.
• Signal is safer than WhatsApp as even UK politicians made the switch for privacy.
• Signal isn't backed by ads or user data, unlike WhatsApp which is its business model.
• Signal's code is visible to anyone.

Facebook manages to grab a terrifying amount of data from its users. Even WhatsApp, which belongs to Facebook, can’t match Messenger. That’s probably because the app is end-to-end encrypted, so Facebook’s powers are more limited.

I don't want to say that Signal is the only or the right option, but according to the data shown above, it is certainly among the more acceptable ones!
