Steemit Experiencing Issues After Hardfork 21 And 22

By ketcom | ketcomblog | 2 Sep 2019

If you are a member of the Steem Blockchain you must have discovered there have been issues with the platform since yesterday (about 13 hours to 14 hour from when this post was published). Members have not been unable to post, make comment or carry out other transactions on all the user interface and DAPPs linked to the blockchain, at some point the Steemit website went offline but later came back.

The Steem blockchain underwent a Hardfork 21 on the 27th August 2019 to cause a major change on the blockchain that relates to how authors and curators were rewarded i.e. 50%/50% as against the old 75%/25%, voting timer moved from 15 minutes to 5 minutes, creating a pool for downvoting, keeping 10% reward for SPS and a whole lot of other changes that are too broad to focus on in this post.

A lot of members kicked against this change, especially small account owners who struggle to earn something meaningful from the platform because they felt that HF21 wasn’t going to be beneficial to small account owners and that it only favored the Whales, bid bots and members who had a lot of money to invest. The argument for and against HF 21 went back and forth for a very long time as members kept posting the support or disapproval of it. At the end of the day it was the witnesses that were had the power to decide what happens and they overwhelmingly agreed to support Hardfork 21.

After the implementation of Hardfork 21 a Hardfork 22 was implement 2 days later to solve the problem of a bug that was affecting delegation was detected. They said the type of bug that caused the problem was difficult to discover during the testnet stage, fortunately we had good hands to resolve it before it got out of hands.

Members have been trying to analyze and evaluate how the new changes are affecting their investment so that they can figure out new strategies they can implement to help them succeed but these interruptions are not making it easy to comprehend.

I woke up today to see that a notice had been posted on their twitter handle informing members that they are aware of the situation and are working on it. Let’s hope they can resolve the problems on time as a lot of members leased SP which cost them money so that they will be able to transact effectively on the platform and as they say “Time Is money”, every minute they can’t transact is costing them money, how and if they will be to be compensated is something we have to wait for and see.

I sure wish everything works out fine for the blockchain as a lot of people have spent huge amount of time, energy and resources to make the Steem Blockchain a place to be.
