Perhaps the greatest artist at capturing a persons character is the little dutch master Vermeer. He is well known for having the uncanny ability to distill the essence of a character onto canvas. As a kid when I learned about him and saw his paintings I was totally impressed by this.
Whenever I do drawings these days I also try to capture the character of the people. Sometimes I'm lucky and I seemed to get it and other times I completely miss the mark. This time around I think I almost got it right :)
Clearly more practice is required!
