As I mentioned in last week's recap, this week was going to be a little slow with family in town all week but I still managed to hit a few milestones. I've got a major schedule shakeup that starts tomorrow and what that means is that I can devote a whole lot more focus on coding and starting some projects. This week, I worked my way through Alchemy's Road to Web3 and Learn Web3 DAOs materials. Still plenty to work with next week though.
<usual_enterance> If you're new here I'm creating this blog series as I go from coding newbie to working in web3. I'm creating this to reflect on the technical and non-technical growth and to leave it behind for others who might be interested in how they can follow a similar path. </usual_enterance>
In this week's recap:
- WAGMI Squad
- Articles
- Alchemy's Road to Web3
- Learn Web3 DAO
- Metacrafters
- What's Next?
WAGMI Squad
Heads were down this week as many of the group members are still trying to finish up some of their stuff before really focusing on the group. I'm working to get feedback on finalizing some web design and branding choices.
Articles
The articles this week were actually replaced with Learn Web3 DAO's materials. You can find more on that below!
Alchemy's Road to Web3
I was successful in finishing both weeks 8 and 9 this week, which leaves just one final week left in the program which aligns perfectly with my intention to end the Self Study chapter of this journey at the end of next week.
Week 8, was a betting game. This one was more difficult to do because finding a trustworthy Optimism Kovan faucet wasn't easy.
Week 9 was a token swap dApp with 0x.
By the way, you can check out all the fancy Proof of Knowledge tokens from this on my OpenSea account in a featured collection here.
Learn Web3 DAO
Lots of progress here finally after stepping back to focus on other learning avenues that last two weeks. As mentioned previously, I spent this weeks article time focused on the materials here. The pics below show the readings I've worked through but that the projects remain on the To Do list. I'll get those this week though, lots of projects there but I'm confident that the change in my daily schedule that initiates tomorrow will ensure that it gets done by the self-imposed deadline.
Here is the list from the Sophomore track:
And here is the list for the Junior track:
Metacrafters
Metacrafters is an upcoming learn-to-earn game, looking to teach blockchain dev skills to anyone that has an internet connection. I came across this initiative at Consensus in Austin last month while attending a few of the Crypto Cities sessions. I heard from the founders of Proof of Learn about their mission in building Metacrafters and felt very motivated to explore the project more.
I think that I will ultimately find a lot of the starting material to be too familiar, but I'm hoping that there's a focus on the learning materials for developing smart contracts with Rust and using Solona (Metacrafter's NFTs are on Solana, so that's where this hope is coming from). There lies what I hope to get out of this upcoming project, it will come perfectly timed for when I would like to start introducing myself to Rust and building with it.
I'm bringing all this up to say that after 2 years of paying attention to web3, then working with a project, and now becoming a developer; this is the first project that I've bought an NFT from. I believe in this project and was definitely sold on the founder's convictions, now I just have to hope everything pans out in the coming months. I'm looking forward to seeing what's been built and jumping into the MVP soon.
Additional information on the project can be found on Medium.
What's Next?
With a whole lot more coding time available this week, I'm fully set up for success. And by success, what I mean is completing the final challenge from Road to Web3 when it releases and completing at the very least the Sophomore and Junior projects from Learn Web3 DAO, along with the Senior track's readings. The stretch goal is to finish up their program by completing the capstone.
If all goes my way, I'll finish week 22 by clearly marking it as the last week of the Self Study chapter so I can move into the real stuff. Buidling.
