Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Lava Spider card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Featured Monster: Lava Spider

Lava Spider is a common fire splinter card. It has snipe from the start and learns snare when it reaches level 6. It learns it's final ability poison at level 10. With a mana cost of 3, it's a great card to use because of it's decent health and it has snipe. So this works out quite well anytime I use Yodin Zaku or I have a snipe quest that I want to finish.

Everyone is given a level 1 version of this card as it is part of the starter pack. I do have 12 copies of this card at level 1 but I have yet to combine them because I still have packs to open after I get enough potions. I was hoping to get a gold copy of this card so I get the level boost while the keeping the individual levels for rentals or individual card sales.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

rule set.png

The rule set this time is holy protection. This means that every card can negate one attack on it before it takes damage. There is 25 mana available and anything except water can be used. For this rule set, I believe that having more cards is better than having less. After all, you have to do an extra attack on each monster before you can kill them off.

The summoner I choose to use this time is Yodin Zaku. I choose this card because of the blast ability. The bonus ranged attack and health does help if I lay out my line up with more ranged attack monsters. My plan is to have Chain Golem tank in front then layer a bunch of ranged attackers where I can to deal damage. The extra snipe damage should help because it should be able to attack in the middle of my opponent's line up.

Round 1

round 1.png

At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think it will be quite dangerous for me because my opponent is focusing on using sneak to kill off my cards. The front of my opponent's lineup is also quite tough and I only have one snipe monster so it will be a drawn out fight.

Round 2

round 2.png

I don't like how the first round played out. I did deal some damage to his monsters in the front but my opponent has already started working on my backline. I think the fight will probably go down to my Chain Golem being the last standing card.

Round 3

round 3.png

I lost an attacker but I did kill off Lord A. My other ranged monsters are in danger of dying but I should be able to start wiping out the sneak monsters either this round or the following round.

Round 4

round 4.png

Now that my opponent is left with just sneak monsters and my lava spider has the holy protection buff, I think this match is mine. I don't see any way of my opponent overcoming the damage output and the Chain Golem in front will be a threat because he needs to land 6 attacks without missing to kill it off.

As I expected, I was able to finish off my opponent without any issues. Focusing on my backline did quite take out my damage dealers but that left Chain Golem alone to wreck the rest of his line up.

Conclusion

The battle this time around also did not go as I expected. I thought that my Chain Golem would be tanking a lot of the hits and die off before most of my ranged monsters died. In a way, this battle went exactly like I expected because the blast ability did great work the entire fight. With 10 damage per round and a possible 5 damage through blast at the start, I was able to take out my opponent's holy protection.

Without Yodin Zaku, I don't think I would of won this match. Lord A is a tough card to beat and his sneak monsters would focus fire on my backline quite hard. That is 9 damage per turn just using his sneak monsters. If anything, I think my opponent having two tanks in the front lowers his damage output. So I am not sure if that was the best choice. Other than that, I don't see anything wrong with my opponent's pick of low mana melee monsters.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would of done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
