Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is any Dragon battle. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Featured Monster: Diamond Dragon

The Diamond Dragon is a dragon splinter card. This card has 10 armor points even if it's health is on the lower end. As a magic based card, this card can be placed anywhere on the field. It has the flying and slow ability. It later learns the cleanse and last stand when leveled up.

I don't use this card very often due to the high mana cost but it can definitely be quite useful in an earthquake or equalizer rule sets. If the opponent is not using very magic monsters, this monster is amazing. Both the armor and flying ability make it a great choice against melee or ranged monsters.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

rule set.png

The rule set this time is earthquake and spreading fury. With 40 mana available and I have access to fire, water, earth and dragon splinters. So flying monsters have a advantage as they won't take damage every round. The enrage ability will be helping all cards by giving them more speed and melee monsters also get a boost in melee attack.

The summoner I choose to use this time is Daria Dragonscale. This summoner gives +1 melee attack to all monsters and benefits any melee monsters along with the enrage ability. At the same time, this card also lets me use all my cards without worrying about their level being limited.

My strategy is to as many flying monsters as I can. The problem I have is that I don't have many flying monsters to choose from in fire, water or earth. So I fully expect myself to fill in the remaining positions with cards. With dragon, I can get at least 4 dragon melee monsters so I can take advantage of the summoner and the enrage ability.

Round 1

At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think this will definitely be a hard fight but the good thing is that I did not field any ranged monsters. It does look like my opponent also has no flying monsters so the longer the match lasts, the better it is for me.

Round 2

round 2.png

My line up is definitely suffering and my front-line tank is almost dead already. However it does look like my luck isn't that bad as I should be able to clear out a few cards this round on my opponent's side. Both me and my opponent are missing quite a bit but I think my Diamond Dragon will do great in this match.

Round 3

round 3.png

It's a battle of endurance as I lost a few more cards due to my opponent's strong damage line up. The trample ability definitely hurt as my opponent did an extra 5 damage. However my diamond dragon is holding up well and earthquake should help me close the gap a little bit.

Round 4

My dragon jumper and diamond dragon was able to attack first so I was able to wipe out a card before he could attack. With this, I don't see any reason why I would lose unless my dragon jumper misses in the next round.

As I expected, the round finished soon after and my diamond dragon did die in the end. However it was able to tank my opponent's hits long enough for me to win the match.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went like I expected. While I did not anticipate my cards dying off so fast, the flying line-up on my side definitely helped me dodge quite a few attacks and it saved me from being damage from the earthquake damage. My Diamond Dragon was definitely the best tank this round as it tanked quite a few attacks. This allowed me to deal more damage and take out my opponent's cards along with the earthquake damage.

I think my opponent's line up was quite strong. He had 4 shield from the summoner effects as well as the Venari Wavesmith. So this meant that he could take 2 rounds of earthquake without getting hurt and he was probably relying on killing me faster than I could kill him. However I think the push for armor instead of a flying monster is definitely something that hurt him. The blind and flying combination would be quite deadly as I would probably miss quite often. Other than that, I think his line up is definitely strong.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would of done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
