Attended my first ever crypto conference on 1st April!!
No, it was for real, Polkadot Now India Conference on April 1st was no April fools prank!!
On 1st April, I attended my first ever crypto conference, which was #PolkadotNowIndia that took place at Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield Hotel and Convention Centre.
I was relieved that the conference was no April fools joke, when I actually was allowed entry, with event tie and bracelet after volunteers scanned my QR code that had registered the details of my registration.
This event was sponsored by Polkadot, arranged by the Indian Polkadot Community led by main organisers Rish and Sohail.
The funding was actually done, Web3 style, with a Governance proposal put out for this.
Yes, this proposal was approved by the Global Polkadot community and funds were released by the Polkadot Treasury that helped the Indian Polkadot community Organisers spend for this event.
For all attendees , this event was free. So, let me share what I gained from the conference.
Gains in terms of Polkadot goodies!!
Literally speaking, in terms of gains -:
- Got 2 Polkadot t-shirts (I call them Relay Chain t-shirts)
And one t-shirt from Parachain team over there on the booth — Kilt Protocol that deal with generating DIDs or Decentralised Identity solutions

Elephant in the wallet — not in the room with Trippy Trunk NFT airdrop
We all hear about the phase, “the elephant in the room”, even if we can’t see it, but I really get an elephant NFT in my Raresama wallet. Trippy Trunks NFT collection, featuring really cool, smart and fashionable elephants (with that attitude of confidence) is drawn by artist Skullz.

Even though I am no fan of NFT, I love this NFT and I will keep it as a collection that I earned just like the Acala NFT I have that I earned for being an early ecosystem participant of that protocol. A memento of sorts that I can’t lose as it’s stored in the Blockchain… too cool!!

Raresama is the Parachain platform on which Trippy Trunks NFT is showcased and here it can be auctioned.
This protocol ia part of the Moonsama ecosystem of NFT platforms.
After the Moonsama presentation in the conference, our presenter Asif Beif announced some good news, besides premiering the Trippy Trunks NFT that would be available on Raresama platform. The good news was that they just won a parachain slot on Polkadot!!
Trippy Trunks NFT made me learn a bit about the Raremasa platform
I had recently visited and read a bit about Raresama, just to know how to see the Trippy Trunks NFT that’s airdropped for me. It was very interesting, the platform is great for talented artists to feature their works and earn some SAMA selling it. However, what excites me here, is that all the NFT artworks there in Raresama are curated by the Raresama community, so it’s a decentralised market place for NFTs.
Raresama is part of Moonbeam’s ecosystem as its built on the Moonbeam platform. SAMA is the Raresama’s native crypto.
Changing my perspective on NFT thanks to Raresama
Now, I remember the little chit chat I had with Tiggah, the Moonsama team member who gave the presentation about this NFT platform.
He was genuinely excited to talk about the project but I told him that I am a Defi enthusiast, NFTs don’t interest me but the NFT airdrop that’s going to happen is on Raresama platform, so that’s the incentive for me to learn about Raresama. However, I was so impressed by the Trippy Trunks NFT graphics that it made me curious about the Raresama platform.
TLDR; mindset change, after all NFT is not for just speculating on artwork, it may have started like that though, and it’s not just for gaming, there are other use cases.
Street Dogs of Thailand are cared for by Moonsama’s NFT Dog initiative(:
However, there is more. Moonsama is starting a charity that works for the welfare of Thailand’s stray dogs. The funds for caring for these strays will be raised by tokenising and creating NFTs of these dogs and putting them up on Raresama.
Here funds would be raised (by provably selling these NFTs) for feeding, neutering and providing shelter for these dogs.
This did touch my heart because I understand and connect with this.
People who follow my stories showcasing my association with dogs that hang out with me in the park, know about how I enjoy the company of free roaming dogs that are homeless on the streets.

However, these dogs live a good life. They are happy, free, content as they are looked after by my area streeties group who vaccinate, feed and coordinate with the local authorities in getting these dogs neutered.
So, NFTs can be used for funding welfare of stray dogs and Moonsama has supported it, and I have respect for the team for doing that!!
So, another reason I will explore and support the Raresama NFT platform is for the comradeship bond I share with my free roaming street dog friends — Dog Rascal, Dog Votka, Dog Max, Dog Batman and other dogs who come to me at times but I don’t know their names!! It’s special!!
Perhaps, my street area group can take the help of the Moonsama team on creating NFTs of these interesting dogs and auction them, so the group get funding for the welfare of the area streeties.
Understanding NFTs
NFTs, for those that read my dog posts but are not into crypto and Blockchain are Non-fungible tokens. Any physical asset like art, real estate, song, article can be made into a NFT, stored in Blockchain. This gives the creator ownership rights over their NFT. It serves as proof that the NFT asset is property of the creator.
So, an artist or musician who’s selling their work as NFT, have ownership rights over their work and get deserving compensation. Instead of otherwise selling them in their physical forms where it can be forged, duplicated and sold by third parties without honouring copyrights of the artist and musician who is the original creator of that piece of art or music.
It’s easier for the artist and musician to earn royalty earnings whenever their work is resold because the NFTs can be tracked.
This is my understanding, but I am not a NFT person, and have not done much study on it, so my knowledge is very limited.
Right, I have more to highlight about the Polkadot Now India Conference, but I would do it in another post.
