Upland Beginners Handbook and Festival Guide: Cities, Properties, Game Features, Budgeting, Do's and Don'ts
This article is a basic guide to all essential aspects of the game useful for beginners making their first move and those started already and learning the ropes. It is tied around the 4th of July Challenge and the new Upland cities of Bakersfield, Chicago and Cleveland.
The Fireworks Festival Challenge this weekend is a great opportunity for new players because you will drop into a lot of free game currency that you can add to your existing game budget. However, as a beginner, to get the best advantage for your game investment, you may have to spend $6 on travel expenses or less if you only do a part of the challenge. You will likely get your expenses back and perhaps add to your earnings as well, even if you don't participate in the entire Festival Challenge. Here are all the Fireworks Drops in all of the scheduled cities on Sunday the 4th of July.
Firework Drop Schedule
- Wave 1: Brooklyn, 8:00 AM PT
- Wave 2: Chicago, 12:00 PM PT
- Wave 3: Fresno, 3:00 PM PT
- Wave 4: Oakland, 5:00 PM PT
- Wave 5: San Francisco, 7:00 PM PT
FIRST BASICS - UPX and CURRENCY IN UPLAND
In the challenge you can go from city to city on various forms of transportation you pay for, in the game currency called UPX. 10,000 UPX costs $9.99. In each city, pinatas will be dropped in various locations and clues will be given to find them. Each pinata will contain UPX and another currency to build with in Upland called Spark.
SPARK
You stake spark to build on a property you buy with UPX in Upland. After the property is built, you get all your spark back, and the property is worth more than an unbuilt property.
The example of spark you see here above, can and will be added to and likely finished in a month or two. You can stake spark on your own or get help from the official, and other Upland Communities with members on Discord, about contributors to building projects.
Best Festival and Simple Beginners Strategy
Whether you are on a budget of $20 which is our lowest Upland buy in recommendation or a mega rich whale, you will want to start in Bakersfield, buy a few collection properties cheap. Then sell one, if you need the UPX and go to Fresno all the way to up to San Francisco to get some UPX and Spark. Remember you get a UPX bonus, when you sign up, to add to your initial investment. Do not invest more than $100, until you buy all the FSA properties you want.
CITIES, NEIGHBORHOOD COLLECTIONS, FSA and YOUR FIRST $100
$100 was what IRUUR1 began with in Upland. It is a good med average budget, entertainment expense. However beginners mistakes, prompted us to invest another $150 in order to capitalize and profit from what we had soon learned. Had we not spent the extra money we would have seen all of our learned advantages vanish within a month. Since we were new, we couldn't waste time hoping no one figured out the advantage we saw, before we could trade what we had at a decent profit, to then buy with a better strategy. So we staked more cash we could have saved had we known some basics first. We do not want this to happen to you.
Bakersfield Beginners Bargain Basement Bonanza For Collectors
Whether you have twenty or one hundred dollars or more to spend right now, Bakersfield is the place to be. Bakersfield has neighborhoods you can collect property in that give you a boost in UPX when you complete a collection and then every 3 hours thereafter. It is a tiny amount at first, but it can add up. There are many properties which are initial offering in Upland here called, FSA, Fair Sale Act properties. All property you buy recieves revenue every three hours, according to its worth and how many people visit. But Collection Neighborhoods get an extra UPX boost as well. This can really add up as you acquire property in general and in collection neighborhoods in each city specifically. When you build in a collection neighborhood, the value really goes up. These graphics are in The Oaks in Bakersfield.
Picture above of an IRUUR1 property, is in The Oaks neighborhood collection. You can see the original un-minted UPX price is 6,772.5. That is basically $6.77, rounded down. Because it is in a collection neighborhood, even without a building on the property, it could get you a quicker sale when you put it on the market.
The Oaks
Bakersfield has 2 collection neighborhoods with bargain basement FSA Properties. The one in the picture on Eagle Oak Rd is in The Oaks Bakersfield Collection neighborhood. It was bought at the Un-minted price, which is slightly above the FSA price. FSA means Fair Sale Act properties. They are available, for purchase until your net worth in Upland exceeds 100,000 UPX = $100 in the game. Once you have spent 100,000 UPX on anything, including visits to other properties, or transportation, you can no longer buy FSA Properties. You can however buy un-minted properties, if available for only a fraction more. 10% and lower usually, according to the neighborhood.
Therefore to make the most of your FSA opportunity, do not have a total net worth in Upland, of more than 100,000 UPX, until you can no longer buy FSA properties.
West Bakersfield
In West Bakersfield There are also many FSA properties available. Some as you can see in the picture are available at under $5 in UPX.. If your budget is below $50 this is a good start for you. In any neighborhood it is good to buy at least 6 properties to begin a foothold. If you can only buy four at first, buy them in West Bakersfield, You will get a UPX boost when you complete the collection with three properties, then you will with some sleuthing, find a buyer who will be interested in a property, unavailable to them at your price ready to buy in a collection neighborhood. West Bakersfield and The Oaks in Bakersfield are the only 2 remaining, certified, collection neighborhoods left in all of Upland with UN-minted and FSA properties still available. Cleveland in Upland, has FSA and un-minted property available that will be announced as collections, once those neighborhoods are sold out.
For $20, plus the sign-up bonus you get with our link, you can buy 4 or 5 properties in West Bakersfield, sell one, hold the fifth because the price will rise in value. or simply hold them all and take the train to Fresno on Sunday to find pinatas with UPX and Spark, in them. You can go all the way to San Francisco following the challenge. Train costs are under 1,000 UPX, $1

STRATEGY: Beginning a Deeper Look into Upland Cities, Chicago, Cleveland and Basic Game Fundamentals
This a very basic look, but it will help with strategy after your initial tactics are completed. It will help you with more, practical tactics, to develop better strategies and execution.
Cleveland, Chicago, 1st and 2nd Tier Cities in Upland
Chicago, like NYC and San Francisco is a 1st tier city. They are destined to rise higher in value over all the rest, and their initial prices are higher for FSA and Un-minted, overall. Even though there are no un-minted or FSA properties left in Chicago collection neighborhoods, Chicago is still worth a look for beginners and seasoned players alike. As you can see above, there are some very inexpensive properties available in Chicago as it was only recently opened.
San Francisco was in a similar pricing structure when it first launched. As late as December of last year, you could still see similar bargains as in Chicago now in FSA and Un-minted properties. However if you visit Upland San Francisco today, you will see properties that were selling at these prices, now at triple and multiples above. Chicago is structured the same way to yield a similar long term result, you can use to your advantage, before all the un-minted and FSA properties sell out.
Cleveland and Some Final Beginners Details
[caption id="attachment_30652" align="alignnone" width="903"] BLOCK EXPLORERS - SENDS - WHAT THEY ARE - HOW THEY WORK - BUYING FSA AND UN-MINTED[/caption]
Cleveland is the newest Upland city. It is a 2nd tier city and not overall, as valuable as a 1st tier city. But it has one unique advantage at present. No one knows for certain which neighborhood will be designated a collection neighborhood. Once those neighborhoods are officially designated, the properties in them will be adjusted in price becoming suddenly worth much more. There are many FSA properties there, and half all all properties are designated FSA. If you think you know Cleveland, go there and pick up a bargain and it may just be part of a collection worth much much more.
You can see in the Cleveland graphic above, that many properties designated in white, are still waiting to be made available for their first sale. Only half of Cleveland has been put on the market so far. All FSA and Un-minted properties are in grey.
Block Explorers Sends and Some Nuts and Bolts
Everyone in the Upland game gets an upgradable block explorer. You will learn about the upgrading as you go along in the game. The main thing to remember is that when you want to buy an un-minted or an FSA property, it can only be done in a city where your block explorer is physically present. You can see the black trailing line behind the IRUUR1 explorer in the large picture above. As the explorer comes in proximity with a grey ready to be minted property it turns lime green. When it turns green you can buy it.
You can send your Block Explorer to any owned property. But you must constantly have sends to do it and you will pay a fee to the owner. You can store up to 11 sends. You get sends by finding arrows like the ones in the graphic. When your Block Explorer touches one you can click it and it will give you 1 or more sends. When you send your explorer to a property, you pay the property owner a fee. You can set your own visitors fee on all your properties in Upland.
