My weight loss journey: week 3 - late update

By Namae | Healthier Horizons | 25 Dec 2023

More than a week has come and passed since my last update and let me tell you it hasn't been exactly pretty. I fell with yet another cold - the third one in the last month and a half. The gist of this one is that it came just in time for the last week of classes and two days before a 5h drive in around -2ºC to 4ºC weather. This may not seem as much to my American friends, but driving this long is not common at all where I live. The weather seems to be commonlish. Honestly I wouldn't know because I moved to this city about 3 months ago but even the locals are complaining about the cold so there's that.

I've managed to keep up with my goals, even though my exercising routine keeps suffering from my inability to breath through my cold. And, sure enough, my boyfriend insisted on keeping my tradition of eating Santa Claus shaped chocolate on Christmas morning which I gladly accepted (I didn't buy it myself, which is my current goal, so does it count?).

I'm excited about going to the gym for the first time in my life. I think I went once or twice with my high school PE class, but I'm not counting it for obvious reasons. I'm also a bit nervous because I don't really do well in loud environments but I won't be alone and I'll have support so I can get the best possible outcome out of this visit and then decide if I'm willing to go for a membership or if I have to step-up my at home game. I've also scheduled trying to go out for a run, as I'm spending the holidays in a city that is quite flat, as opposed to my current city or my home city, which are somewhat mountainous and not fit for outside activity for somebody as unfit as me.

I have also decided to start doing the legwork to prepare next month's goals. I'm looking for some calories counting apps so I can hold myself accountable. It's not looking good so maybe I'll just make some spreadsheet with the things I usually eat and work on it manually. I'll have to consider this option as it will probable make things more difficult for me and it can turn out as some form of self sabotaging. I've also started to make my own meal plan so it'll be nice and ready in time for my next grocery shopping trip, which will be the first one of the new year.

Last, in an honestly unsurprising turn of events I finally got an Asperger's diagnosis. I was convinced myself but having an official diagnosis has eliminated all my self doubt. This is good news for me as even though I was convinced I still didn't understand many things about me. Being labeled will allow me to do som research to better understand myself and what drives me and, most importantly, what makes my anxiety spike. Anxiety is the biggest driving factor that causes me both to snack and to have absolutely no willpower when making good decisions about my food.

As always, thanks for reading.
