My weight loss journey: setting the basis

By Namae | Healthier Horizons | 2 Dec 2023

As of today, I'm 1.72m tall and weight 96.3kg. I'm considered obese. This is not news to me, as this has been going on for some years now and I know I have some medical issues that keep me overweight and way many more that arise from it. What's really baffling is something I learnt recently: almost 50% of my body weight is just fat. That's more than 40kg of fat that I carry around. If somebody asked me to carry a 40kg backpack everywhere I'd probably just refuse and my body would crumble in protest. And yet, here I am.

Anyways I decided to start this blog because I'm now in a position where I can take responsibility for my diet, routines and habits and I want to keep a log. My main focus won't be on weight, as I've tried that many times before and it's always been a failure but I'll rather focus on building healthier habits. So far I've decided on some goals that should be easy to follow during this first month:

  • 0 chocolate on my groceries.
  • 10k steps a day (I'm currently on 6500).
  • Drinking enough water: I'm not putting any kind of limits or any amount to this but sometimes I won't drink even when I'm thirsty.
  • Exercising daily (I've been doing this for a month now but I'll increase the amount of repetitions of my current routine from 5 to 7).

As I said, these shouldn't be too difficult to do so I'm going to focus on keeping them in order to turn them into some good long lasting habits.

Regarding the blog itself I'll update weekly. Overtime I'll try changing my eating habits as well and I may share any recipe I find worthy.

By sharing my journey I hope I can help somebody even if just a little bit. Even if any of you are in a similar situation and can relate and feel a little bit less alone.

Thanks for reading!
