I strongly believe that the blockchain games will be one of the biggest trends in the cryptoverse in 2022.
So here I'm going to list games I'm currently playing and feel somewhat bullish about. I've chosen games that don't require much initial payment, are easy to start and earn you some extra crypto! What really motivated me to write this article is the annoying fact that people nowadays endorse blockchain games as "free to play" or "play to earn", leaving out the fact that you first have to buy some 100$ -1000$ NFT... But there are alternatives to that. First one on my list is:
Rising Star
In this game you try to conquer the world as a rock star. Start your way from your home town and complete different missions to become the next big thing I guess. Rising Star runs on HIVE so you'll need access to it(Hive keychain for example).
The game doesn't require any starting capital but you can earn STARBITS, a native currency of the game. STARBITS can be used to buy cards which give you different kind of bonuses. Buying and selling cards inside the game was difficult for me so I'm using NFTMart for those purposes.
All in all very easy to start, quite addictive and doesn't require that much time. How much money you want to put into the game is up to you but starting is free!

Ok, on to the next one. This you might have heard of:
Splinterlands
This one I think is currently the most played blockchain game out there. Splinterlands is a trading card game in which you battle head to head against other players. Do daily tasks to earn DEC(in game currency), cards and other bonuses. Advance to higher leagues to earn more loot.
You can try Splinterlands for free but if you want to earn from it you'll need to buy what is called a Summoners Spellbook. That costs 10$ so starting to play and earn isn't free but in my opinion it might still be worth it.
Splinterlands has a lot new users so the amount of DEC to earn has dropped so you'll have to work pretty hard until the Spellbook pays itself back. The game itself is quite addictive but unfortunatly it seems to be going from play-to-earn to pay-to-earn direction.
There's a good tutorial to help you learn the game mechanics and get you started. Right now there are lots of cheap cards on the market and with cheap I mean something like 0.04$. So these NFT's are not like those in some games where you have pay ~0.2 ETH to even start! Of course there are much, much higher valued cards and I guess any card could be a good investment for the future.

So playing(and little paying), and selling/buying cards can earn you a nice amount of crypto. Besides DEC there is also another asset called SPS(Slinterlands shards). These tokens you can stake within the game to earn you more.
Crypto Royale
You are a bubble or a ball in this game. Collect boxes and try to hit other players. Battle royale rules.
Completely free to play and you begin to earn in game currency called ROY instantly. These ROY tokens can be withdrawn to Metamask or staked within the game to earn more. Note that Crypto Royale runs on Harmony mainnet so you'll need to install that to Metamask in order to withdraw.
There are different game formats, skins, achievements and more.

A very nice game to play at workplace for example.
Roller Coin
This one is not actually a game but a mining simulator and a gaming platform.
In Roller Coin you play different kinds of mini games to gain hash power. That power is used to mine coins such as BTC, BNB, MATIC and more.
Roller coin is free to start and you'll get a signing bonus of 1000sats of BTC. Their native token is RLT - Roller Token. You can use RLT to buy miners which then add to your total power - more power, more coins.
Right now there is a Season 3 running which is weirdly named Christmas Time! -event. By completing missions you earn XP and that is used to unlock miners and other bonuses. Most of these are not available until you upgrade the event pass. There are two options: normal upgrade is 99.99 RLT and Premium which is 319.99 RLT. Both of these prices are pretty high if you decided to play free. However, some of the event quest bonuses are available for free. Just have to play a lot to earn them!
For me, it's really tempting to buy passes and miners because of the idea of passive income. Miners mining endlessly...
And call me crazy but some of the mini games are actually pretty good and so I keep coming back over and over again. I have to add that I'm still building my miner collection and haven't withdrawn yet.

Last but not least:
dCrops
Like Rising Star and Splinterlands, this is also a HIVE blockchain game.
dCrops is a very simple farming game: plant seeds, wait for quite a long time, harvest and them sell them for shares and earn CROP, in game currency. This game requires an initial deposit in form of buying few packs of cards. Cards can be land or seed. There are common, rare, epic and legendary cards. When you get land and seed from a pack you are good to go!
Alpha packs have been sold out from the games own shop and Beta hasn't been launched yet but cards can be purchased from Tribaldex for example. Price for one pack is about 3 HIVE if recall correctly.
For the seed to grow it can take something like 6 - 12 days without boosters so this game really doesn't take too much of your time! My seeds are planted and I'm still waiting them to grow so I cannot say much about the tokenomics yet.
I have really good feeling about this one! It's still at early stage so I think it's a good time to jump in!

Conclusion:
You might wonder why the topic "Cool blockchain games 2022" since some of these games aren't exactly new. Thing is that most new games really dissapoint with their high initial payments or hidden fees which is a pity. But if you can hint a low-cost -games like these, please leave a message down below. I'm always in search for those gems!
And if you are into blockchain games, be sure to follow me! Next time I am going to write about "not so cool games 2022". So stay tuned!
