Hello dreamers!
There is a huge interest in understanding our dreams and finding someone to interpret them for us, however it seems like we don't always have the right tools to describe our dreams. This usually leads to frustration or disappointment as we don't discover a message that our subconscious is trying to pass on to us.
So how can we help ourselves remember our dreams in detail?
#1 - Keep a dream diary
As cliché as it sounds, keeping a dream diary is extremely useful to jot down notes about our dreams. When a dream is so figural that it captures your attention you should write down some keywords that will help you recall parts of the dream later! We are more efficient at recalling than remembering!
#2 - Wake up with ease
When we wake up late and stressed our mind jump-starts itself to the immediate consciousness and thus loses the connection and impact our dreams had on us. It is much easier to recall parts of your dream when it is fresh and still quite figural in your mind ! To make this transition easier it is important for the body to get enough sleep. We need around 8 hours of sleep to give our mind and body enough time to go through our REM (rapid eye movement) phase healthily.
#3 - Write details!
You are the architect of your dreams. Dreams have an infinite amount of unconscious knowledge based on your life and reality. If you want to have your dream interpreted or worked on in therapy it is of utmost importance to remember details. Many times people try to get an interpretation or meaning out a dream with just a couple of sentences. While this may be enough to expand and work on this creatively with your therapist, it would still be a better learning experience if the details are present. You could be amazed at the amount of detail your dreams carry.
#4 - Assess your dream
Since you are the architect of your dream you are somewhat aware of what is important for you in the dream. Your dream is created to grab YOUR attention. Try and understand the elements of your dream and what stood out to you. This is what your attention should be directed towards as it probably very relevant to the message the dream is trying to pass on.
# 5- Relax
Most of the times we find ourselves being scared that our dreams could be dangerous or predicting something terrible that is about to happen to us. Dreams are portrayed in such a scary manner to grab our attention. This is what makes this dream stand out from the other hundreds of dreams you had in one sleep. You shouldn't be worried about the content of the dream, rather you should be interested in its meaning!
Happy dreaming!
