4 days and 195 battles in, I am really enjoying Splinterlands. For those of you who do not know, Splinterlands is a blockchain-based card game, where monsters and summoners battle it out. You use different cards with different attributes to build the best team for the battle. I am already a big fan of gaming, so I didn’t take much convincing after reading a few blog posts about the game by @costanza before I decided to try it out. Sidenote: you should follow and read his articles.
One thing I like about this game is that each match is so different. Typically each match has a different mana level (enhancing or limiting which combination of monsters you can use, different splinters to pick from (Fire, Earth, etc.), and sometimes additional effects on the battlefield (affecting what types of units you can deploy). Because of these match by match changes and the hundreds of cards, every match is very different, meaning you are unlikely to get bored any time soon.
With the purchase of the Summoner’s Spellbook, you start receiving daily quests and access to different rewards. If you complete a daily quest, you receive a certain number of chests to open based on your rank/league. At the end of the season, you also may receive another batch of chests depending which league you finished in. I felt like I had good timing when I started at the very end of the season, so I got a few extra cards and prizes very early on.
That brings me to the one big question I have yet to find an answer to: How on earth do I use this card?

This Gelatinous Cube is the very first prize I received from completing my first daily quest. Each time I have tried to use it, I get obliterated. One match I saw my opponent deploy this card, so I was excited to see what would happen. He lost just like I usually do! Maybe in another 195 matches I will finally figure out how to use this card, but in the meantime, Splinterlands provides diversity of gameplay, entertaining strategy, and is overall a very fun game or effective distraction (depending on what you are looking for). I suggest you give it a try. I look forward to trying more of the awesome cards and interesting features of Splinterlands, and will update you again shortly.
