There’s a growing trend on Social Media with #DeleteCoinbase being used on several different platforms. These hashtags are a direct result of the constant crashes that occur on Coinbase when there’s a significant increase or decrease in trading volume and price and privacy concerns from the Coinbase deal with the feds. When the price increases significantly a lot of users want to cash in and sell their holdings to make money, but Coinbase will crash and not allow anyone to sell or trade. The same thing goes vice versa when the price declines, users want to purchase more holdings and buy the dip but they are unable to. Many are speculating all over social media that there’s an algorithm built into Coinbase that correlates with the spikes and causes the crash. This isn’t a onetime deal and has occurred several times. Additionally with privacy concerns and decentralization a priority these days to crypto enthusiast, the deal between Coinbase and the feds (specifically the DEA “Drug Enforcement Agency” and IRS “Internal Revenue Service”) doesn’t help their cause. Coinbase has partnered with the feds to provide crypto surveillance tools called “Coinbase Analytics” which provides them with a plethora of information in regards to cryptocurrency. In an article referenced below there is a direct quote from the IRS that states “Coinbase Analytics; has enhanced law enforcement sensitive capabilities that are not currently found in other tools on the market”. This shows that Coinbase is primarily in it for the money and privacy is not a concern to them. This is the reason why the flood gates have opened with a mass exodus of people leaving Coinbase searching for alternatives.
