It's a real mystery that Dogecoin (DOGE) has received the most hate from the crypto community yet more and more news of Dogecoin adoption news keeps popping up. Since last year, we've heard news from Doge accepted as payment for parking in a Belgian city, can be donated to an animal shelter in New York, can be used to purchase items on the Dallas Mavericks and Tesla website's, and a Doge themed restaurant in Dubai, just to name a few (see below on where you can spend your Doge or other cryptocurrencies). Shiba Inu (SHIB), the self proclaimed Dogecoin killer has also established it's own community and is building it's own ecosystem.
One of the latest and good news in crypto adoption lately is that AMC Theaters will be adding top memecoins Dogecoin and Shiba Inu as payment for online purchases. Other cryptocurrencies that are accepted is Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH) & Litecoin (LTC) which was announced around November last year.
In a tweet posted by AMC Theaters CEO Adam Aron, both memecoins will start being accepted as payment on the 19th of March via their website and on the 16th of April via mobile app. Payment processing will be facilitated by BitPay, a crypto payment service provider. Even Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus (known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto) made a hilarious reply on Adam's tweet announcement.
AMC Theaters (AKA American Multi Cinema) is an American movie theatre chain founded in 1920 and is the largest movie theatre chain in the world. The company received much attention mid last year due to Reddit forum Wall Street Bets pumping up it's stock shares.
Dogecoin created by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer made the coin as a joke poking at the wild speculation of cryptocurrencies. The memecoin however had established it's own community and it's price has surged last year because of Tesla founder Elon Musk's constant tweets about the said cryptocurrency.
Shiba Inu built buy an unknown person (or group) named Ryoshi was created mid 2020. Just like Dogecoin, Shiba Inu was created as a fun cryptocurrency at a time where a lot of memecoins kept popping up in the market. Out of all the memecoins that were created, Shiba Inu had established it's own community and is making it's own ecosystem. Shiba Inu is dubbed as "the next Dogecoin" or "the Dogecoin killer".
Love or hate DOGE or SHIB, institution's accepting memecoins is still good news for crypto adoption as it still gives crypto exposure to the general public enabling them to explore the crypto space as a whole. Hopefully 2022 will be the year where we hear more crypto adoption news not just in DOGE & SHIB but with all major cryptocurrencies as well.
