Very Bad Poker Hand - Pencil

Inktober 17-20: Salty, Scrape, Ponytail, Bluff

I am a day ahead for Inktober today!

I am also pretty happy with all four of today's drawings.

Day 17: Salty

Horse licking a giant salt lick - colored pencil

I am still having a little trouble shading with colored pencils, so the ones where I primarily use colored pencils still sometimes look a bit cartoony. That out of the way, I am very happy with the foreshortening of the horse's snout, and the way his neck stretches away from his body toward the salt lick.

Day 18: Scrape

Child with a scraped knee - colored pencils

I am tempted to fuss about the way his shorts are puffing away from his body, but on thinking about it, I think little kids often wear clothes that are baggy or fit weirdly. I am especially happy with his shoes and his facial expression.

Day 19: Ponytail

severed ponytail in someone's hand - colored pencils

For this one I tried using a different color for shadows and shading, rather than trying to make the main color darker. I think this worked rather better.

Day 20: Bluff

Terrible hand of draw poker - pencil

I expect lots of people will draw landscapes for this prompt, but I have been practicing hands, and I wanted to continue that practice. I am very happy with how this one came out. I considered adding color with colored pencils, but I decided not to risk it - I am not sure how much color would add here, and I already like what I have.

The prompt for October 21 is "Bad Dog" and I am pretty certain there is no such thing. I considered drawing a bad person whose dog misbehaves because of ineffective training or abuse, but I really don't want to devote my time to drawing assholes. I believe I will skip "Bad Dog" and take a day off instead. The prompt after that will be "Booger". Ahem.
