The memory palace (method of loci), is a mnemonic technique that consists of associating the information to be remembered with imaginary familiar places (rooms, corridors, bathrooms, etc.). By imagining a mental “palace”, the information is placed in precise points (such as an armchair or a window). To remember, you mentally travel through this space, “reviewing” the objects/information. The trick is to make the images funny and unusual to fix them better. As you know, in the crypto world (if you use non-custodial wallets), it is very important to safeguard your seed (through that you can have full access to your funds and move them). It is good practice to save the seed on a metal plate and a second copy on a piece of paper (dividing the seed into 3 or 4 parts hidden in different houses). However, you could also use your memory to save the seed using this technique.
How does it work?
1) Think of a place you know well (your home).
2) Associate each object with a funny/strange image with the information you need to memorize in a certain order.
3) Repeat these associations over the weeks to save the seed in your long-term memory.
Example seed 12 words:
"banana hero lamp mirror dragon carpet tomato piano rocket forest candle monkey"
Memory Palace (your home):
Entrance: giant banana blocking the door.
Living room: a hero in costume fights a lamp that shoots laser light.
Hallway: a mirror shows a dragon sleeping on a carpet.
Kitchen: tomato dancing on the piano.
Garden: a rocket launches from a forest where a lit candle whispers to a monkey.
You could also associate 1 word to each image: for example a giant banana at the entrance, a hero sleeping on the sofa in the living room, a lamp held by a dwarf in the hallway, etc. Always follow the same order: for example, impose a clockwise direction.
Thanks to this, you could go through customs or go anywhere, without sheets with the seed written down because you have memorized it in your mind! I gave you this example with a seed but you could also use it for other mental exercises.
