When people invest, they believe that a token/crypto can go up indefinitely. Of course that's not the case. Sometimes, people change strategies based on market trends. If they wanted to make quick profits, as soon as they make a loss they become "long term investors".
In reality they are "bagholders": people at a loss. They wait for any future increases, to get rid of the tokens with which they lost money. When there are many people at a loss, it is difficult for a token to return to ATH, especially if it has no fundamentals/use cases. Furthermore, after many years, we have to deal with a higher working capital. If you have an exit plan you can limit the damage.

Here are 3 simple exit plans you can implement. These strategies depend on your appetite for risk. Basically whether you want to risk more (degen) or less. There might be people who like to play more cautious and others who like to go full degen.
It all depends on your goals, your attitude and your time horizons. Everything must be adapted to your goals, time horizons and attitude.
CONSERVATIVE STRATEGY
Let's say your investment was $10,000 and it increases by 50%. You know have $15000 and you can:
•Pull out 75% on less risky crypto BTC/ETH or Stablecoin/Fiat
•Maintain 25% of your original investment, letting it run
MODERATE STRATEGY
Your investment increases by 100% (2X). You now have $20000 and you can:
•Move 50% to BTC/ETH or Stablecoin/Fiat (or 25 + 25)
•Pull out 50% and split 25% to your original investment + 25% into a new project
DEGEN STRATEGY
If your investment increases by 3x, you have $30000 and can:
•Move $10000 into BTC/ETH or Fiat
•Take out 2/3 and divide the 25% into:
-Original investment
-Liquidity pool
-New project A
-New Degen project B
EVALUATE CYCLES
The way of taking profits into BTC/ETH must be contextualized.
You can do it if we're early/mid-cycle not at the top with a hyperextended chart, unless you want to hold BTC no matter what.
Taking profit does not mean re-investing everything in other altcoins in the same bull cycle. You can do this if the altcoin you have chosen hasn't performed well yet but you must keep in mind that the markets are correlated. When the bear market starts, no crypto can escape: everything goes down. BTC and ETH are the ones that support it best because the capitals of the altcoins (the one with a low, medium and finally high market cap) coincide. Altcoins are literally dried up.
PREVIOUS CYCLES
2012=BTC Halving
2013=Bull Market (TOP in December 2013)
2014=Bear Market
2015=Laterality
2016=BTC Halving
2017=Bull Market (TOP in December 2017)
2018=Bear Market (from February 2018 onwards)
2019=Laterality
2020=BTC Halving
2021=Bull Market (TOP in November 2021)
2022=Bear Market
2023=Laterality
2024=BTC Halving
2025=???
Imagine the future bull cycle like this:
-Bear Market (2022)
-Laterality & Halving (2023/2024)
-Bull Market (late 2024/early 2025) with BTC kicking off the dance and going up on its own. Follows ETH and then the biggest altcoins (market cap)
-Altseason (mid-2025) with BTC contracting its dominance in favor of altcoins. Everything goes up in this phase
-Retracement (always 2025)
-New BTC start and final alseason (end of 2025)
-Bear Market (2026). Everything collapses, BTC and ETH hold the dump better

Your goal should be to play one cycle extracting more profits as you can in order to compound them in the next bear market. Many people fail in the markets because they want their token to go to the moon, unrealistically. You don't have to be valid. Nothing can go up to infinity. When a token goes up, there are more and more people in profit who will start offloading. This is the reason because it is dangerous to buy when a token realizes +900%. You must buy when "blood runs in the streets" (Bear Market). The above systems work only if you respect them with strict discipline. People are not profitable because they aren't disciplined. If you're in profit, respect the plan no matter what your emotions or your friends, media, blog, Twitter...tell you.
It's you versus the market. There is no perfect strategy to adopt. The whole point of this post is to create a system/plan with which you feel comfortable. Also remember that you can't predict either the bottom or the top and that going against the trend is a recipe for disaster.
You can also change the asset allocation (%) and create your own strategies. Create a plan or you'll not survive.
