How Gameplay Has Changed on Sorare 2026 (MLB)

There aren't many NFT games that manage to survive so many years. I can say that Sorare is one of them. The game as it was designed in 2020/2022 wasn't sustainable (an infinite mint of cards, which caused their value to decrease year after year), however, the platform is updated every year with new features and updates that improve gameplay. In this article, I'll explain how Sorare MLB has evolved because I only participate in Fantasy Baseball (however, the gameplay is similar for football and NBA basketball).

How was the card inflation problem solved? Simply by differentiating the cards into:
- Classic (those from previous years).
- InSeason (current season).

The differences are that you can participate in the most attractive tournaments (with cash and ETH) IF you purchase new cards (from the current season). You can submit older (classic) cards in other tournaments to earn other rewards (essence). What are essences? They allow you to "craft" cards from the current season that you can deploy in tournaments to win ETH/cash.

There are essentially three types of tournaments:
1) Champions: you must submit 6 new cards and a maximum of 1 old card (you can win ETH and essence).
2) Challenge: you can also submit all old cards (you can only win essence).
3) Hot streak: by reaching a threshold, you win more and more essence if you manage to maintain the streak for several consecutive GWs. For example, "score at least 175 points," if you succeed, the second streak is "score at least 200 points," etc.

When you reach 1,000 essence, you can craft a card that you can sell or submit in tournaments. To craft, you will be presented with 10 face-down cards (varying from tier 5 to star), where you can use clues: division, position, top 5, highest ranking. To obtain clues, there are daily quests and "milestones" in the collections. If you don't have any clues, you can spend essence to craft.

How was the card inflation problem partially solved? In addition to differentiating between old cards (which decrease in price over the years because they essentially increase in number) and in-season cards (which have great value in the current season), the vault was introduced (you can lock cards you don't need to receive a boost to your GW points. The more cards you lock, the greater the boost to your points). Another feature that can boost your points in various GWs is collections (accumulating cards from the same team).

Even though the system forces you to spend year after year (to be competitive and try to win ETH), I have to say that with around $150-$200 you can build a good limited team (there are two GWs per week, and in each, if you finish in the top 100, you can win anywhere from $10 to $1,000, plus essence if you finish outside the top 100).
