Elrond (ERD) was launched in July 2019 and is expected to start its mainnet in the next few days.
Elrond Network focuses on the decentralization, scalability, efficiency, security and interoperability of Blockchains (EVM: Elrond Virtual Machine).
The transaction speed should reach 10k trx / sec, other characteristics of the network are low latency and low transaction fees.
The team focused mainly on limited scalability while also trying to improve the interaction between the different blockchains (through the expansion of multiple nodes and the execution of parallel transactions).

Elrond Network will implement the Secure Proof of Stake (SPoS) where suitable validators (ERD holders) will be randomly selected through a rating.
ERD is the utility of the network and for the moment it is a BEP-2 token running on the Binance Chain platform.

ERD will be used to pay the transaction costs within the Blockchain of the Elrond network (a bit like what is done with Ether used for ERC20).
Token holders can also become validators (masternodes will manage the transactions in the system).
The ERD token will also be used as a reward for validators who contribute to the system. Using PoS, low energy consumption and modest computational power requirements are also expected.
One of the key parts that the Elrond team focuses on is the development of the Elrond Virtual Machine. In short, dApps running on other Blockchains can be transferred to the Elrond blockchain.
