Bullish on XRP

XRP Utility and why it counts

By Ghengis | CryptoLowDown | 19 Jan 2020

A recent comment on my last XRP post was that I mentioned a couple of chart analysts I follow believe XRP will rise to $28.   The comment was that would give XRP a market cap of $1.4 Trillion and implied that was totally unrealistic.

XRP is broken down into denominations like most and the smallest denomination is a drop  which is 0.000001 XRP. This gives a total maximum number of drops of 100,000,000,000,000,000.

Bitcoin has a limited supply of 21,000,000 coins, but it's smallest denomination is a Satoshi, or 0.00000001, then the total number of possible units is 210,000,000,000,000.

My point here is people always say that XRP has 100,000,000,000 which is 4,062 times as many coins.  But when you break it down into their smallest denominations, this number reduces by a factor of 100 - still a big difference, but 40 times instead of 4000 times (please, I did this in my head, my calculator doesn't accept numbers this big, so please tell me if I'm wrong!).

Why does XRP need so many coins compared to Bitcoin?  The answer to that lies in what it was designed to do (The use case).

Bitcoin was designed to be strictly a digital currency and to be a store of value.

XRP was designed to be a bridging currency - to convert one currency to another and transport it across the world.

Crypto Market Capitalisation

What is "Market Capitalization" and how is it calculated?
Market Capitalization is one way to rank the relative size of a cryptocurrency. It's calculated by multiplying the Price by the Circulating Supply.

Market Cap = Price X Circulating Supply.

Stock Market Capitalisation

What is Market Capitalization

Market capitalization refers to the total dollar market value of a company's outstanding shares of stock. Commonly referred to as "market cap," it is calculated by multiplying the total number of a company's outstanding shares by the current market price of one share. As an example, a company with 10 million shares selling for $100 each would have a market cap of $1 billion. The investment community uses this figure to determine a company's size, as opposed to using sales or total asset figures.

The major difference between Crypto and traditional stocks is that crypto Market Cap is calculated using circulating supply and Traditional Stocks use total issued shares.

So, at the moment Bitcoin has a market capitalization of $165B vs XRP $10B.

Let's say BTC rises to $100,000 which seems to be a figure bandied around a lot - that will take the Bitcoin market cap to $18,131,868,131 and if XRP got to $28 that would take its market cap to $1,210,720,000,000.  Huge numbers I'm pretty sure we'd all agree.

Is it possible?  This is where XRP's use case needs to be looked at.  XRP is setting itself up to be the Premier carrier for the world's wealth being transferred around the globe.

My answer is, "I don't know".

What I do know is the world is barreling towards crypto currency adoption - CBDC (Central Banking Digital Currency), Crypto Currencies and blockchain are all rapidly coming.  Globalisation is here.  The world is no longer a globe of isolated countries - thanks to modern innovations and technologies like larger and faster air transport, the internet and the like, we are no longer restricted to our own little "village".
