As always, remember: Never invest money you can't afford to lose.
Do your own research. Buy my NFTs.
Crypto and gaming is a logical combination, and it has been fascinating to learn about different games/projects that are out there.
One of my latest discoveries isn't exactly a diamond in the rough: it's Alien Worlds, the very popular crypto-based space mining game. I read a write-up by @Redneckonize here on Publish0x which pointed me in that direction.
The game itself is very simple to play in some ways. The interface is rather straight-forward, almost a throwback to the early days of home video game systems from the 1980s.
You have tools, you pick a spot of land, and you start the mining by clicking a button. There's no actual work to it, aside from perhaps a test of patience as the process takes place and you wait for another round.
To play the game it helps if you already have WAX currency. This is where it goes from simple to complex.
Learning about crypto has in turn led to me learning about dApps and non-fungible tokens and all sorts of related things. It has been challenging but ultimately rewarding.
I had crypto, but didn't have WAX. You can't buy WAX with U.S. fiat currency directly, and the process was a bit daunting. Bridging this gap should be a priority, as the barrier to entry is going to scare away some people who otherwise might enjoy playing.
Via wax.io, I was able to use a service called ChangeNOW to turn some bitcoin I bought on Coinbase into WAX currency. In spite of some trepidation, I gave it a try and got it to work. Six minutes and the process was complete.
Unfortunately, I ended up staking my WAX currency almost immediately by mistake. Be very careful with the WAX wallet Feeling Lazy button. I had intended to stake the 53 and change, keeping the remaining 100 WAX for item-shopping on the open market.
I ended up with 5 WAX unstaked, and I've been using that to slowly work the market on AtomicHub. There are some interesting non-AW related items on there as well, including some Garbage Pail Kids that the '80s nostalgist in me felt obligated to check out.
There is much I'm still discovering about it, but I wanted to let it be known that Alien Worlds is a fun game that's worth checking out.
More next time on some of the in-game mechanics/strategy I'm still learning about, along with info on how you can earn some fun NFT just by mining land. That's how I landed this Crypto Kraken card, among others.
