Splinterlands: A Proposal to Create a New HIVE:USDC Liquidity Pool on Base

Although my Splinterlands posts have dropped to one per week (and I’ve already published the one for this week), today, while checking some of my assets on the Splinterlands website, I noticed that a voting is currently underway for the approval of a draft proposal that could be quite interesting — at least for me.

The proposal aims to create a new liquidity pool on Base, which would complement the one created a few days ago alongside the release of the new bridge connecting Hive with Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, and Base.

This second pool would pair HIVE with the stablecoin USDC, providing an alternative to the existing HIVE:ETH pool.

It would also have much higher liquidity — around 100,000 USDC and an equal amount (in dollars) of HIVE — making swaps easier and more convenient even for users handling larger amounts.

The post published by @sps.dao also outlines all the necessary steps to obtain the liquidity required for this operation:

The $100,000 in HIVE would come from a power down of the @sps.dao account, while the $100,000 in USDC would come from converting part of the SPS DAO’s BNB reserves currently held on the Binance Smart Chain.

The operation therefore has both advantages and disadvantages, such as:

• the risk of impermanent loss if HIVE increases or decreases in value
• the reduced curation power of the @sps.dao account

My Vote

As for me, although the reduced curation power of the @sps.dao account directly affects me, I had no hesitation in voting in favor of this draft proposal, while waiting to confirm my vote in the final Proposal.

Not only do I believe that having more entry points to Hive is an excellent way to make it easier for potential investors to join this blockchain, but I’m also personally interested in this addition: having two separate pools with HIVE on Base means more opportunities for arbitrage — both between the two pools and compared to those on other chains.

It’s becoming increasingly important for me to start considering whether it’s worth creating some new script to constantly monitor the existing pools and those that, hopefully, might soon be added.

Having HIVE available on multiple chains is a great opportunity, although much will depend on how the community responds to these developments: if the pools are rarely used and have low trading volume, their usefulness will be quite limited — both for me and for those who have invested time and resources in creating the bridge and the pools on Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, and Base.

My hope is that this won’t happen, and that Hive users themselves will start discovering and using these tools: if that happens, it will also make it much more likely for these pools to be found by new potential users.

Splinterlands: Proposta per Creare una Nuova Pool di Liquidità HIVE:USDC su Base

Nonostante i miei post su Splinterlands siano scesi ad uno a settimana (ed abbia già pubblicato quello relativo alla settimana in corso), oggi ho notato, mentre monitoravo alcuni miei assets sul sito di Splinterlands, che è in corso la votazione per l'approvazione di una draft proposal potenzialmente molto interessante - almeno per me.

Viene infatti proposta la creazione di una nuova pool di liquidità su Base, che andrebbe ad affiancarsi a quella create qualche giorno fa contestualmente al rilascio del nuovo bridge che collega Hive con Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain e Base.

Questa seconda pool accoppierebbe HIVE con la stablecoin USDC, offrendo una pool alternativa a quella HIVE:ETH.

Questa pool avrebbe anche molta più liquidità - si parla di 100.000 USDC ed un pari ammontare di HIVE - rendendo più facile e conveniente effettuare swap anche per coloro che muovono somme più importanti.

Il post pubblicato dal @sps.dao riporta anche già tutti gli step del procedimento, volti a procurarsi la liquidità necessaria per effettuare questa operazione:

I 100.000 dollari in HIVE deriverebbero da un power down dell'account @sps.dao, mentre i 100.000 dollari in USDC dalla conversione di alcune riserve in BNB possedute dall'SPS DAO e attualmente detenute sulla Binance Smart Chain.

L'operazione presenta quindi dei vantaggi, ma anche degli svantaggi, come:

• il rischio derivante dall'impermanent loss, ove HIVE aumenti o diminuisca il proprio valore
• il ridotto potere di cura dell'account @sps.dao

Il mio voto

Per quanto mi riguarda, sebbene il ridotto potere di cura dell'account @sps.dao sia un qualcosa che mi tocca direttamente, non ho avuto dubbi a votare favorevolmente a questa draft proposal, in attesa di poter confermare il mio voto nella Proposal definitiva.

Non solo infatti credo che più punti di ingresso su Hive siano un ottimo modo per consentire a potenziali investitori di entrare facilmente su questa blockchain, ma sono anche interessato personalmente a questa aggiunta: avere due distinte pool con HIVE su Base significa infatti maggiori opportunità di arbitraggio, sia tra le due pool, sia rispetto a quelle esistenti sulle altre chain.

Si rende quindi per me sempre più importante cominciare a valutare se vale la pena creare qualche nuovo script grazie al quale poter monitorare costantemente le pool esistenti e quelle che, spero, a breve potrebbero aggiungersi.

Avere HIVE a disposizione su più chain è infatti una gran bella opportunità, anche se molto dipenderà da come la community risponderà a queste novità: se le pool saranno infatti poco usate ed avranno un basso volume di scambio, allora la loro utilità sarà molto bassa, tanto per me, quanto per chi ha impegnato tempo e risorse per creare il bridge e le pool su Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain e Base.

La mia speranza è che ciò non accada e che gli utenti di Hive in primis comincino a scoprire, ed utilizzare, questi strumenti: se ciò dovesse avvenire, renderebbe anche molto più probabile che queste stesse pool vengano scoperte da nuovi potenziali utenti.
