Cardanos next stage - Alonzo Hardfork

The latest updates on Cardanos roadmap have been very exciting. For everyone who is reading the updates by Cardano blockchain research and development startup IOHK the last couple of weeks were painting a better picture of the next steps on the implementation of smart contracts. Just after the Mary hard fork took the community to new emotional heights by delivering the multi-asset and native token support, recent focus has been on the Alonzo Hardfork.

In his video "The Next 90 days" Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano gave a heads-up for the generic smart contract framework of Alonzo Fork which is the ultimate phase in the network’s Goguen-era to add smart contracts/ decentralized applications. As promised within that video, the IOHK released a rollout plan a few days later. Alonzo Fork got divided and color coded. Its rollout has three phases Blue, White and Purple, leading up to a hard fork by having quality gates called Red and Black to implement last tweaks to make it fully operational for mainnet in approximately September 2021.

Alonzo rollout plan

"The ‘Alonzo‘ hard fork will bring exciting and highly-anticipated new capabilities to Cardano through the integration of Plutus scripts onto the blockchain. These will allow for the implementation of smart contracts in Cardano, enabling the deployment of a wide range of new DeFi applications for the first time."

After successfully initiation of phase Alonzo Blue the IOHK just posted an update.

"The first simple Plutus smart contract has this week been successfully run on the AlonzoBlue Cardano testnet"

This simple tweet gives goosebumps to everyone holding some ADA, the cryptocurrency behind Cardano. The first ever smart contract has been successfully executed on the testnet. The functional programming language behind Cardano smart contracts Haskell was developed using the principles of lambda calculus

"It also allows one code base to support both on and off-chain components, improving the coherency and usability of the development experience compared with existing smart contract implementations."

As next phase Alonzo White is basically just adding users and all Plutus software components, it feels like we are coming very close to mainnet launch on time. Alonzo White means a wider selection of partners running scripts on the network beginning in July with dApps, WBE and PAB. Therefore, the wording "successful" in the IOHK newest post about the Alonzo Fork is such a deal breaker to the community waiting for Alonzo Purple to come as it opens the testnet to the public to enable mainnet launch.

Thats why I like to repeat myself in quoting the most important word of today

"successful"
