My Crypto Journey - Week 3

My Crypto Journey - Week 3

By cryptojourney | crypto journey | 25 Feb 2020

Well Here is to another week down the long winding path of my year long project. I have to say it has been a rather interesting week of a lot of volatility in the market. That is something to be expected even if we may actually be heading into a stronger market in the long run. Despite a pretty lack luster week that merely ended as a break even point there have been some positives to go along with it. The biggest positive for me over the last week was the activity I have seen here on PublishOx. I have really begun to feel part of the community here. So a big thank you to those that have read, commented, and clicked the follow button over the last week.

Last week saw a pay day from work so naturally my fellow co-workers I added to our portfolios. Actually, they all think I a bit crazy for even doing this project. Last Thursday I once again tried to explain to one of my co-workers what cryptocurrency and blockchains were. It was a strange phenomenon his eyes got all glassy and had the most confused look I have seen in a long time. Maybe, I didn't explain it well enough or something like that. His response of course was sort of what I expected nonetheless. They all think I a major geek as it is and I am totally okay with that because it sort of true. So what did I do when I got home? I bought more crypto! That seems logical right? To a lot of you reading this post and my rather new blog chronicling my journey might see it as such, but to my friends they just don't get it or maybe just don't want see where the blockchain technology actually benefits their daily life.

Over the last week I have really begun to work on diversifying my portfolio with some new holdings while they are small for now I believe over the entirety of the project my current set up will pay off.  To a certain degree the process will be a bit slower than I would like, but it is moving in the right direction and that is what counts here. We will start off with a small run down of what my portfolio looked like last week and where it is now.

Last week:

  • XRP
  • Stellar
  • Ox
  • Doge
  • BCH

This week:

  • XRP
  • Stellar
  • Ox
  • Ethereum (my newest addition)
  • Doge
  • BCH
  • Litecoin
  • Storm
  • Agent Mile (a totally worthless token acquired at no cost to me)

As you can see the list of coins and tokens have grown a little bit in it's diversity even if the total value has not gone up by leaps and bounds. That was not the point of doing this nearly as much to parse out some of the over all risk. However, I will more than likely continue to add to my positions on each given time. The lone exception of course would be the junk tokens like Agent Mile, but if I happen to get more and it becomes actually exchangeable you can bet I will do so. Next week will see some further minor additions to the list. Storm seems to be a mostly worthless token that I will have to figure out how to convert at some point, but the exchangeable means seems to be pretty limited and may not be worth the time or effort. I figure that I will just hold on to it for now and mess with it at a later date.

Over all it was a good week for me in both buying some Ethereum for my main portfolio and adding some small amount of other coins/tokens into the mix. Even with a somewhat down week in profitability I was able to hit my second goal which counts for something I would say. Since this is a long term project I am less dependent on huge profits every week even if that could happen at some point. The real journey as I see it is to continually keep learning more about crypto as a whole, experiencing the market, and most importantly just enjoying the adventures along the way. If that brands me as totally nuts at work then so be it. At some point they may well wish they had listened to my suggestion about looking at cryptocurrency as it continues to make an impact on the traditional financial market.

This year I have started getting more into cryptocurrency than in years past. So I figured why not document my first real foray into the space now that I actually have some skin in the game.
