Rocketpool 2.5 Medalla Rolling Beta with 10,000 RPL Reward Pool for Testers!

By Mozzie | Crypto Aficionado | 22 Sep 2020

The RocketPool 2.5 Medalla Rolling Beta will be starting on the 6th of October, 2020 00:00 UTC. The beta site will be open to the public, running from https://beta.rocketpool.net for several months at the least, with new features added in several phases.

A quick overview on what Rocketpool & Decentralized Staking is about.

A couple simple requirements are needed to participate, which would include a browser with the lastest version of MetaMask or a Ledger and some Goerli ETH to stake. If you have no Goerli ETH to stake don't worry! There will be a testnet faucet freely available on the site when the beta begins to use.

To incentivize the Rocketpool 2.5 Medella best testers to make it an amazing experience for the all community members all participants will share a reward pool of 10,000 RPL for contributing to the Medella Beta.

Along with that there will be several POAPs given away to users that either stake or run a node on the Medalla testnet. Along with a very limited edition MVP one for those that go above and beyond in the beta.

POAP — short for Proof of Attendance Protocol — is a dApp to collect NFT badges for participating in specific activities, meetups, and events like the Medella beta.

I should note that node operators will receive 3x more RPL from the shared 10,000 RPL pool proportionally due to the extra effort that’s required.

Now as stated in the name of this post, this will be a rolling beta. What I mean by that is there will be 3 Phases to this beta that will be on-going over the next several months, so new functions and updates will be rolling out phase by phase. Node Operators will need to update their nodes several times throughout the beta, the Rocketpool team will be doing their best to streamline that process for the Node Operators.

Phase 0

  • Smart Contracts
  • Smart Node Stack (ETH1, ETH2, Validators, RP clients + CLI / API)

Phase 1

  • Smart Node Metrics (Stack Metrics + Prometheus Integration)
  • Desktop Smart Node GUI ( preview article )

Phase 2

  • RPL Tokenomics (more info on this soon)
  • Additional ETH2 client integrations
  • Trusted Node Improvements (RPIP #002)

The biggest different between the Rocketpool 2.0 and 2.5 beta tests is the introduction of Tokenised Staking with rETH, a token that gains staking rewards over time. You’ll be able to stake, get rETH, run a node and much more, all using actual beacon chain clients on Medalla!

There is far too much info to fit inside this one post so please refer to the references if you require more info to get started, this is meant to be a quick overview.
