I love playing Splinterlands. I'm hooked on the card collecting particularly, and also the ability to earn passive rewards from renting cards, the daily airdrop, and staking of SPS. However, I also still consider myself a noob to Splinterlands. I play in the lowest leagues, because I tend to rent out any cards I own to gain income, hence I dont have them to play with.
When you first start it can be hard to figure out what cards to use, so I thought I'd share some decks that new starters could use with some success in the lower leagues (Bronze).
In this post I'll focus on the water splinter. I tend to stick to some tried and tested cards and deck setups - and these ones seem to work for me - not all the time, it depends who you are playing, but they will get you through 5 battles so that you can complete a water quest.
So the main cards I use are:
Summoner - Keylay Frendul - gives +1 speed and +1 armour
Position 1 - Serpent of Eld - good first position tank, can take some damage and deal it out too
Position 2 - Deeplurker - good second postiion backup tank at lowish mana cost (6) - can also hit from the second position
Position 3 - Pelacor Bandit - low mana cost (3) - with sneak attack ability, and flying ability
Position 4 - Ice Pixie - low mana cost (2) - magic attacks and flying ability
Position 5 - Sniping Narwhal - ranged attack, and will target ranged/magic monsters
Position 6 - Hardy Stonefish - cheap mana cost (1) good last position card to soak up sneak attack damage
You should have most of those when you start, within the free cards - maybe not the pelacor bandit, but I find it drops frequently from reward chests, plus its cheap to buy or rent, if needed.
Anyway, I use a combination of these cards depending on the mana cost of the battle - but note, I find they are not great at lower mana cost battles, so I tend to just use water splinter from 15 mana and up. The following table shows the layout I tend to use:
There are a few other cards in there as well - but again they are freebies - but you can see that I'm mainly leveraging the ones above, and how I'm building up their use from lower mana battles to higher mana battles.
I'm not saying this is the best setup you can have and that you will win every battle, but I am saying you'll do alright and it will get you through a daily quest - which when you first start, can be quite difficult and frustrating, while you are learning how the cards work.
The key thing with Splinterlands when you first start is to stick with it, learn how the cards work, and figure out what to use and when. It takes some practice, reading-up and perseverance - but its worth it, because the rewards from this game can be colossal.
