In December of last year before the SEC went after XRP's creator Ripple Labs, Ripple had teamed up with another upcoming blockchain Flare Network. I personally bought XRP before the snapshot was taken for the airdrop of Flare Networks governance token named Spark but once the snapshot occurred and the XRP lawsuit hit I quickly sold out and made a couple of dollars. Since then I have not really kept up or followed Flare and really had forgotten about them. Coinbase where I owned my XRP did say they would participate in the airdrop and that I did not have to do anything so it fell out of my mind. 

My interest though in the network picked up some though once I saw how well Ripple was doing in court and while it is by no means out of the woods yet it has really battled hard and won some big battles against the SEC in court. A few months ago I saw how the Flare Network team had decided upon the amount of tokens that would be air dropped and how it was going to be based off of the percentage of XRP tokens you owned. After this though it really went quite again until I was reading crypto news on Decrypt.co and saw how they had just raised $11.3 million to help bring along the mainnet launch. 

Well this pipped my interest since the whole underlying function of Flare Network is to bring smart contracts to those blockchain that do not have them already built in. When mainnet launches Dogecoin, XRP, XLM, and Litecoin will have smart contract functionality via Flare Network. This is a really interesting idea to bring along as instead of getting the said communities together to try and work out adding the functionality this blockchain will allow you to do so! Even Litecoin creator Charlie Lee is a backer of Flare Network. 

The air drop and mainnet launch are quickly approaching to with the end of June the ETA given by the development team! The timing is subject to 2-4 week plus or minus the end of June so really it could happen at anytime now through the end of July! Flare will also be dropping dFLR tokens for Flare token holders! This is for Flare Finance which I have not found a lot of information about but seems to be a DeFi application that they are building! It will be really interesting to follow all of this new stuff coming out and well it already has started to!
