Komodo Platform Lead Developer 'jl777' Immortalized as a Playable NFT

Act Fast and You May Score One for Yourself

As a digital version of a '90s schoolyard favorite—POGSmakes its way to the blockchain, the project behind its creation continues to tease details about its NFT collection.

Yesterday, RedFOX Labs revealed new concept art for their upcoming 100% on-the-blockchain title —KOGS. So, everything is on the blockchain? What does that even mean?

Well, only because they’re using tech from Komodo Platform, the game lives on the RedFOX chain, where it processes its logic.

Yes, there are plenty of other NFT games around today. This certainly isn’t the first mobile game powered by tokens.

However, none of the other games boast 100% on-chain programming. Each of today’s blockchain games computes logic on central servers, then later records onto a blockchain. See the difference? It’s massive.

Ask around, and plenty of naysayers will tell you that KOGS is impossible. “It can’t be done” and “you guys must be on something ” are common responses.

While the team may or may not be on something, it’s most definitely on to something.

You see, blockchain is a massively disruptive technology aiming to reduce all the fraud and waste that’s ever-present in governments and greedy corporations. Wielding its power provides the freedom to push boundaries and see how far you can go after breaking through to the other side.

And one of the unsung heroes of the blockchain is Komodo Platform’s anonymous developer, jl777. Since his codework is folded into KOGS, and his lightweight nSPV Payment Client enables the game to run, the team gave him his very own NFT.

I call this one!

Going beyond their core developer, however, there’s one key aspect that sets Komodo apart from similar solutions: Scalability.

Ethereum Can’t Keep Up

Let’s rewind to the parabolic crypto bull run of late 2017. Did you have any Blockfolio refresh parties back then?

It seemed like anyone and everyone couldn’t wait to become an easy millionaire by investing in altcoins, drawing names willy-nilly from a hat. And that made the Ethereum network a bustling place.

As the industry’s bitcoin sidekick, ETH was — and still is — the second-largest altcoin by MarCap. Things were going along fine for a while. Transaction speeds weren’t hyper-quick, but they got the job done.

And then along came CryptoKitties. The NFT-powered game went and dumped mountains of kitty litter inside Ethereum’s plumbing.

The clogged network slowed its roll way, way down, revealing a massive problem with building on someone else’s chain. Other business es — those acting all smarmy about their DeFi aspirations — had to suffer the consequences.

In other words, one project’s popularity can afflict every other project operating on the same chain. But that’s not the case on Komodo.

Of course, I’m entitled to my opinion, and you’re entitled to yours, but I think far too many projects waste efforts and resources by piggybacking on Ethereum.

Why not build with Komodo and get a sovereign chain and as many sidechains as you need? In theory, anyway, the Komodo network is infinitely scalable.

You Still Have Time

Along with blockchain developers, KOGS features nostalgia like 8-bit classics. I love how this one takes me back to childhood:

I loved my NES as a kid!

Now, what we're seeing is in-progress concept art. Only the team knows what’ll make it into the game’s final build. There’s still some testing to perform, and RedFOX is inviting everyone to come out and play.

Until Feb. 15, 2020, everyone who registers as a game tester scores a free Starter Pack of KOGS game pieces. That’s 40 free NFTs for playing a blockchain game.

Among those 40 pieces are 3 slots containing rare and ultra-rare NFTs. Item scarcity has yet to be defined, but if I had to guess, jl777 appears on the rarer side of the spectrum.

So, how do you get a chance to play the game and open your free Starter Pack? It’s easy. Just get yourself registered right here:

But don’t delay because the early testers’ window closes soon. Nobody can guarantee you’ll get the jl777 Kog, but you won’t know if you don’t try!

Thanks for reading -- see you back here soon!
