Guess who's been filing blockchain patents left and right

By LeftFooted | bitcoinea | 24 Oct 2025

Visa, the world's most famous and used credit/debit card network along with MasterCard, has been filing blockchain-related patents like its life depended on it.

Some sources claim 58 in total, others say more than 20. Some say 192.

The truth is, there's one in particular that matters.

In 2019, Visa filed a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a system designed to convert traditional FIAT currencies like the U.S. Dollar, the British Pound or the Euro into digital equivalents using blockchain technology.

The patent application was only published in 2020.

Further, Visa has ongoing partnership with Coinbase (for a card), Bridge (a stablecoin infrustructure provider, and Solana.

They also work with Paxos, Wirex (in certain jurisdictions), and the list goes on.
