Pripyat is the so-called "nuclear power plant" - this is the name of the cities in Russia where the majority of residents work in the nuclear power industry. The "atom city" was built during the Soviet Union and was the 9th "atom city" in present-day Russia.

Prypeć to tzw. "atomgród" - tak nazywają się miasta w Rosji, w których większość mieszkańców pracuje w energetyce atomowej. Elektrownia powstała za czasów Związku radzieckiego i była 9 "atomogrodem" w obecnej Rosji.

The name of the city comes from the Pripyat River, the right tributary of the Dniester River, which flows nearby. It was established in 1970 and was supposed to be the so-called a bedroom for power plant workers, their families and children. It was also supposed to be a great railway junction and a river port.

Nazwa miasta pochodzi od przepływającej nieopodal rzeki Prypeć, prawego dopływu Dniestru. Powstało w 1970 roku, i miało być tzw. sypialnią dla pracowników elektrowni ich rodzin i dzieci. Miał to być również wielki węzeł kolejowy oraz port rzeczny.

It was April 26, 1986. At the Chernobyl Power Plant, a gigantic failure took place in the fourth power unit. Initially, the public was told that only a fire had broken out in the power plant. In just 1 day, 47,000 inhabitants of the city of Pripyat were evacuated.

Był 26 kwietnia 1986 roku. W Elektrowni Czarnobylskiej w czwartym bloku energetycznym miała miejsce gigantyczna awaria. Początkowo wmawiano ludności, że w elektrowni wybuchł tylko pożar. W ciągu zaledwie 1 dnia ewakuowano 47.000 mieszkańców miasta Prypeć.

Most people thought the evacuation was temporary and would take up to a few days, so they didn't take too many things with them. Basic clothes, papers and some food. Unfortunately, they did not know then that they would never return to their homes.

Większość ludzi myślała, że ewakuacja jest przejściowa i potrwa góra kilka dni, więc nie zabierali ze sobą zbyt wielu rzeczy. Podstawowe rzeczy do ubrania, dokumenty i trochę jedzenia. Niestety nie wiedzieli jeszcze wtedy, że już nigdy do swoich domów nie wrócą.

The city districts closest to the power plant have been literally cleaned. Everything was thrown out of the windows: furniture, carpets, TV sets, home appliances, refrigerators. Then all these things were buried deep in the ground.

Dzielnice miasta usytuowane najbliżej elektrowni zostały dosłownie wyczyszcone. Z okien wyrzucano wszystko, meble, dywany, telewizory, sprzęt domowy, lodówki. Następnie wszystkie te rzeczy zakopywano głęboko w ziemi.

The so-called 30 km "exclusion zone". Due to radioactive contamination and high radiation, access to the zone could result in death or disability - living in this place became impossible. People left their homes in a rush, leaving literally everything behind.

Wokół miasta stworzono tzw. 30 kilometrową "strefę wykluczenia". Na skutek skażenia radioaktywnego, i wysokiej radiacji wstęp do strefy groził śmiercią, lub trwałem kalectwem - mieszkanie w tym miejscu stało się niemożliwe. Ludzi opuścili swoje domy w pośpiechu zostawiając dosłownie wszystko.

Unfortunately, the buildings of Pripyat are gradually degrading. Tiles fall off, brick buildings fall off, and concrete falls off. Some objects are no longer open to the public, because they are in danger of collapsing at any moment.

Niestety budynki Prypeci stopniowo ulegają degradacji. Odpadają płytki, zabudowa z cegły, betonowa sypia się na potęgę. Niektóre obiekty nie są już udostępnione do zwiedzania, bo w każdej chwili grożą zawaleniem.

You can still meet here and there the figure of Lenin and the optimistic slogans of the communist system of the time, such as: "People's health is the country's wealth!", "Lenin's party - let the people's power lead us to the triumph of communism", "Let the atom be a worker, not a soldier!", " A peaceful atom for every home ”.

Można spotkać jeszcze tu i ówdzie postać Lenina i optymistyczne hasła ówczesnego systemu komunistycznego typu: “Zdrowie ludu bogactwem kraju!”, “Partia Lenina - siła ludowa niech wiedzie nas ku triumfowi komunizmu “, “Niech atom będzie robotnikiem, nie żołnierzem!”, “Pokojowy atom dla każdego domu”.

A group of stalkers undertook the renovation of one of the rooms of the former nursery. They repainted the walls as much as possible, and placed dolls in place of newborns. The view is depressing to say the least.

Grupa stalkerów podjęła się remontu jednego z pomieszczeń dawnego żłobka. W miarę możliwości odmalowali ściany, a w miejsce noworodków poukładali lalki. Widok jest co najmniej dołujący.

Radioactive radiation is not as dangerous as it used to be, but staying too long is not recommended. However, you can visit the buildings. It is a shocking picture, when we also use our imagination, it makes a great impression.

Promieniowanie radioaktywne nie jest co prawda już tak groźne jak kiedyś, ale przybywanie zbyt długo nie jest zalecane. Można jednak wybrać się na zwiedzanie budynków. Jest to wstrząsający obraz, gdy jeszcze do tego uruchomimy swoja wyobraźnię, robi to ogromne wrażenie.

For over 35 years, a city that has been abandoned and polluted by radiation can serve as a warning. The grandiose plans and visions of the city's builders were shattered overnight. Currently, the city is a monument to a gigantic technological disaster and tragedy. It is a potential museum that everyone should visit at least once to realize how weak we are in the face of the elements, and how little is needed for a huge human tragedy.

Od ponad 35 lat opuszczane miasto, zanieczyszczone radiacją może posłużyć jako przestroga. Wspaniałe plany i wizje budowniczych miasta legły w gruzach w jedną noc. Obecnie miasto jest pomnikiem gigantycznej katastrofy technologicznej i tragedii. To potencjalne muzeum, które każdy powinien odwiedzić chociaż raz by uświadomić sobie jak słabi jesteśmy w starciu z żywiołami, i jak niewiele potrzeba do ogromnej ludzkiej tragedii.

There are currently two plants in Pripyat. One of them is a hall for deactivating specialist clothes and the other is a garage for cars carrying radioactive waste.

Obecnie w Prypeci działają dwa zakłady. Jeden z nich to hala dezaktywizacji ubrań specjalistycznych a drugi to garaż dla samochodów, które przewożą radioaktywne odpady.
