Are Lens Profiles Coming to Phaver Users?

I first wrote about Phaver back in the spring when I was hoping to hunt down an elusive Lens profile. At the time I had learned from a fellow crypto friend that the social media app might be a gateway into getting a Lens profile airdrop. Phaver has gone through a few iterations over the last few months - including changes to how points and 'cred' are earned - but for awhile it seemed that the hope for a Lens airdrop was wearing thin. Lens seemingly stopped whitelisting Phaver users who earned the coveted Clique Phaver SBT, and indeed that SBT is now currently unavailable to claim due to ongoing issues with Twitter's API. Since I joined Phaver, Lens has also opened up a general waitlist for future profile drops, but as it stands I don't believe any new openings have been released since.

However, in a surprisingly underpromoted announcement this week on the app, Phaver CEO Joonatan gave us this screenshot with a very welcome message:

In this slightly fuzzy screenshot, we can see a new button will be appearing on our level/cred page allowing users to claim their Lens profile. Wow, right? Level 3 and Level 4 users will have first access, followed (hopefully) by Level 2.

Wait, What is Lens Anyway?

Before I dive too much more into Phaver specifically, let me give you a quick overview of Lens in general. If you're not familiar with Lens, it's a user-owned decentralized protocol designed specifically with web3 social media in mind. Users who are able to mint one of these Lens profiles are essentially creating an NFT of their social media persona, which can be used to own, control, and monetize their content across the plethora of social media apps being built on Lens. The Lens ecosystem is quite large, and Phaver particularly stands out as one of the platforms that allows users to interact with their product with or without a Lens profile.

How to Level on Phaver, 2023 Q3 Edition

As I mentioned above, the cred and points system has evolved over the last few months, and my last guide back in May is a bit out of date. But there are essentially three ways to earn the 'cred' needed to level up your profile (and to keep it leveled) each month. (Before I dive into these various options, keep in mind that cred is only collected on days that you actively use the platform, so as they say on the Phaver Discord, be sure to "keep Phavering!")

  • Hold NFTs with financial value. There's a list available on the Phaver app as well as in their help center, and more qualifying collections are being added as time goes on.
  • Earn 'Credible' (including soulbound) tokens and labels. The current list includes the Clique SBT, the DegenScore Beacon, and the Galxe Passport. Recently, Phaver has also assigned points and cred to the Frens badge (which can be earned by creating quality content in-app), as well as the verified checkmark bestowed upon notable contributors to Phaver specifically and the Web3 community in general.
  • Earn 'Achievements' including various OATs and W3STs(Coming soon.) Currently, the Kleoverse Proof-of-Talent / Proof-of-Ownership Github badge is the only one included, but there is work going on behind the scenes (according to a recent Discord AMA) that other OATs and W3STs offered by Phaver will be added in the future provided that certain technical details can be ironed out.

Other Recent News from Phaver

In addition to this recent announcement concerning Lens profiles, I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention two other pieces of important news that's come from Phaver in recent days. To begin with, Phaver is currently offering their first token sale in collaboration with SwissBorg. While there was some pushback from the community regarding the limited number of countries that were able to participate due to various regulations, the Phaver team is reportedly looking into other sale opportunities with other partners in addition to their planned token airdrop that may occur for all qualified users as early as Q4 in 2023.

Additionally, Phaver has at last released their long-awaited whitepaper just this week for all of the Phaver enthusiasts who are ready to deep dive into the details of the platform and upcoming token distribution.

Summary

If you're like me and have been active on Phaver for awhile now, you're probably in a good spot in regards to your cred to at last snag your Lens profile. (Thanks to my recently acquired Frens badge, I'll be hitting Level 3 for the first time later this month!) But if you're new to Phaver, don't write off your opportunity just yet; if you follow my guide above for earning cred and are committed to being an active member on this very fun platform, you may just be a few months away from snagging your own shiny new Lens profile, too.
