Brave can now be set as default browser in iOS 14

For well over 2 years now I have been using Brave as my ‘go to’ browser on my iPhone, this week marks a big milestone for all existing and new users, you can now set Brave as your default browser!

Chrome, DuckDuckGo, Edge, Firefox to name a few already have enabled support of the feature in their latest releases, now Brave has joined the race.

I had been beta testing iOS 14 the last month or so myself and this is one of the bigger features I was looking forward to. No more having to copy urls from other apps or using the share sheets option on your iOS device to then open in Brave and earn.

Then of course those pesky magic link emails, I’m not knocking magic links but having to copy the url in your mail client to then open in Brave was frustrating for me. Especially if you accidentally held your finger on the url in your mail client, previewed the link before copying it causing the link to expire. I’ve had this so many times when receiving my Brave publisher magic link.

How do I set Brave as my default browser?

Easy, all you have to do is first check you have iOS 14 installed or available to install. if neither make sure your device is listed below.

iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE (1st generation), Phone SE (2nd generation), iPod touch (7th generation). Source: Apple iOS 14 & check iPad.

Once you’re ready with iOS 14 installed, just head to: Settings > Brave > Then select ‘Default Browser App’ and select Brave.

So what does this all mean?

We should all now earn more BAT, perhaps not considerable amounts but with far less friction between apps in iOS we should all see a difference with more time spent using Brave,

Could this also open the doors for less “tech savvy” users to finally adopt Brave as their chosen browser, in theory this should help the whole ecosystem and pull in more ad revenue. I’ve seen on the Brave community forums as well the sync features should be coming soon.

What about you?

Are you now setting Brave as your default and sending referral links out to old friends you haven’t spoken to in years? 😁

Or perhaps you’re sat there looking smug on your Android device? 🤖
