In this day and age, we find ourselves speaking with opposite genders without knowing it. Interactions between opposite genders have surged, often crossing traditional boundaries. While fostering communication can promote understanding, many of the Prophet’s sayings emphasize that such interactions are haram.
"في خبر المناهي أن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله نهى أن تتكلم المرأة عند غير زوجها وغير ذي محرم منها أكثر من خمس كلمات مما لابد لها منه"
“Al-Ḥusayn ibn Zayd Imam al Sadiq عليه السلام from the Commander of the Faithful who said: “The Messenger of Allāh, blessings of Allāh be upon him and his family, forbade a woman to speak to someone other than her husband and a non maḥram (i.e. forbidden for marriage) more than five words that are necessary for her.”
The Prophet peace be upon him and his family: "And whoever shakes hands with a woman unlawfully will come to the day of judgement chained and will be ordered to hell, and whoever jokes with a woman who is not his, will be imprisoned for 1000 years [in fire] for every word he spoke to her in the world.
These hadiths stress the importance of limits on communication between opposite genders in Islam. Speaking to non-mahram individuals beyond necessary words is considered haram. The warnings about consequences for inappropriate interactions highlight the need to maintain respect and modesty in relationships. May Allah help us stay away from this sin.
