Away from crypto currencies,
As a Lebanese citizen, I have to explain some points to the public about the current difficulties and problems here in this geographically small country.
I'm not going to tell you general informations that can be found with a simple Wikipedia search, but you should know that Lebanon is suffering from a severe financial crisis that said to be "among the world’s three worst since the mid-1800s. The currency has lost more than 90 percent of its value and unemployment has skyrocketed".
Too many words and polite sentences right? Let's get to the main points :
Before the crisis :
- 1$ = 1,515 Lira
- Salary of 1,200,000 = 800$
- Price of 1TB SSD = 100$ (25% of that salary)
Now :
- 1$ = 23,000 Lira
- Salary of 1,200,000 = 52$
- Price of 1TB SSD = 100$ (192% of that salary)
This inflation is accompanied with high prices of almost everything as Lebanon imports most of its food, clothes, pharmaceuticals, fuel and many others...
I think the idea here is clear, but what's really annoying is that the cause of all these issues is the corrupted politicians taking over Lebanese since the 90's.
Although people know these politicians are corrupted, they kept electing them for the past 30 years.
This is a glimpse of the current situation in Lebanon without further boring explanation.
