Romanian officials announce that between March 24th and April 19th, 2020, the nation has issued about 200,000 fines equivalent to about 86 million United States dollars to people who failed to comply with restrictions to combat the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. According to analysts, the fines are about equal to Romania's February 2020 corporate tax take.

Similar to rules implemented in France and Italy, Romanians must fill out an official form before leaving home providing the reasons why they have gone out. The form must be presented along with identification should they be stopped by police officers or military personnel. Anyone caught breaking the restrictions faces fines between 2,000 leu (450 USD) and 20,000 leu (4,500 USD).

As of now, there have been at least 9,242 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus alongside 507 Covid-19-related deaths.
