The death toll from the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic in the United States of America has exceeded 5,000 while over 216,000 people are confirmed infected. According to Johns Hopkins University, there were 884 deaths in the last 24 hours. Over 75% of the United States' population have been ordered to stay home in an attempt to reduce transmission of Covid-19.
The latest weekly US unemployment claims have hit a record high of 6,600,000 as the the pandemic takes an economic toll. The worst-hit city in the nation is New York City, where over 47,000 people have tested positive for the disease and over 1,300 are now dead.
Meanwhile, there are nearly a million confirmed cases and close to 50,000 deaths globally.
