Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that starting on July 4th, 2020, some of the Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown protocols aimed at reducing transmission of the virus will be eased. The easing of protocols will allow pubs, bars, and restaurants to reopen with reduction of service, hotels and campsites to reopen provided shared facilities are properly and thoroughly cleaned, and performance theaters and music halls to reopen without live performances. Additionally, libraries, movie theaters, museums, art galleries, theme parks, skating rinks, zoos, aquariums, and more will also be permitted to reopen, though Prime Minister Johnson warned that all steps are reversible should Covid-19 coronavirus cases rise.

While Prime Minister Johnson said that people should still remain 2 meters (6 feet) apart whenever possible, a new "one meter plus" rule will be introduced. However, Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Wales' First Minister Mark Drakeford, and Northern Ireland's Arlene Foster stated that the 2 meter rule will continue to be in place in their respective areas.

As of now, the United Kingdom's Ministry of Health and Social Care (https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-of-health-and-social-care) has reported over 305,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, alongside at least 42,600 Covid-19-related mortalities.
