Our bonds with our animals, do not under estimate them.

As I write this I am sitting in a hospital room with my sister and my dog. My mom is in Hospice, the blood supply to her bowels is blocks and she will be passing on to a hopefully better place soon. She has had many issues this year, she fell and broke her arm, a few months later her femur, and then a pain reliever recently caused a stomach ulcer so she was unable to eat. When we brought her in as she had gotten weaker and after they did exploratory surgery they found that her bowels were dying from lack of blood.

During the past two years my mom has been staying with me and Sandy and they have become very close. When my mom was not feeling well Sandy would not leave her bedside. She would lay with her all day and night. She had bounded with my mom, who was known for dropping a few crumbs of food all the times she ate. Sandy of course cleaned up after her.

This week, mom has been in the hospital and Sandy was not eating. She was missing her couch and bed partner. Lucky for us the hospital allows dogs to visit patience plus Sandy is a certified therapy dog that gets to visit IL Masonic Hospital and Shriner Children's Hospital.

Sandy just hops up on the bed and sits with my mom and both fall asleep. I know that it helps mom relax and makes her feel much better. At this time both her and the dog need to be with each other and keep each other company. Mom feels tired after talking with people but the dog is happy with her just closing her eyes and not talking. Everyone wants to say goodbye and share stories, Sandy just want to be with her.

If you have a choice, I recommend highly getting a dog, if you have the time to be with them. I don’t like it when I have to leave her at home alone. It took me several years to get a job that allowed me to do some work from home and spend time with the Sandy. The best part is I work at a college that allows me to bring Sandy to work one day a week as a therapy dog in the library.

The best love is unconditional love, and pets don’t know anything but that.

Sandy my dog has been with me 6 years. She is the sweetest dog to people, other dogs she can be a bit bitchy with.

I love my Sandy girl.
