After a delicious meal at Otoro Sushi in Scotts Valley, some sweet needed! So we drove across the street just a few mins to this Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard. They say it’s been here in Santa Cruz for..ever so it’s gotta be good!

Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard

Rita’s Italian Ice is a restaurant chain, based in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, which sells mainly Italian ice, frozen custard

Since Kev and Bryer told me it’s gotta be here for the dessert or sweet treats. I thought it was some kind of homemade stuff or individual business or something but no, I found out later it’s a chain just like Cold Stone Creamery, Dairy Queen, Baskin Robbin’s, etc.

Not that it’s a bad thing. I love all the brands mentioned. I just prefer the homemade kind like that Penny Ice Creamery we went to the other day. Made in house ice-cream and waffle. Real good!

By the way, that’s Bryer, 32 years old, Santa Cruz born and raised. ‘Single and ready to mingle‘ #lol You really think I’m joking, don’t you?

The shop almost seems like an American old-school kind of place which makes sense as it’s founded in 1984. I love how red it is also. Without wasting any more time checking out the shop as it’s not that fancy instagramable of a place, we went straight and ordered the sweet treats we all love.

Quite a few flavors of each kind. The Italian ice claimed to be made daily which sounds good to me. The ice-cream is mostly regular flavors and nothing fancy like Ben & Jerry’s love to put so much stuff all in one pint. I actually love that kind of ice-cream more but, I wouldn’t mind this kind either. Let’s scoop!

Rita’s Italian Ice ($4.09 Large)

Italian ice is a sweetened frozen dessert made with fruit which often made from concentrates, juices, or purées. Kevin got a blood orange flavor Italian Ice. Not so bad really but when I’m in a place where they offer this and Frozen Custard, I would totally right away pick the frozen custard without even thinking.

Rita’s Frozen Custard ($4.29 Large)

I got Cotton Candy with Rita’s special which is a very intensive chocolate flavor with chocolate chips and a few other things. Not exactly sure and couldn’t be bother asking due to the sign says ‘Private’ #lol and Bry got Cookie Dough with orange.

All 4 flavors were good! Creamy as it’s supposed to be and not that sweet compared to many other sweet candy out there.

Well, compared to Penny Ice Creamery where it’s all homemade and fresh, I would prefer that. Though, here in Scotts Valley, there’re not that many choices. This Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard is also a nice place to go fix the sweet craves. Their creamy frozen custard is delicious and their Italian ice is coolingly refreshing.
