Interview with ShrimpBaguette from Beast Garden

Interview with ShrimpBaguette from Beast Garden

Hey fellow readers, here is Part 5 of interviewing founders from WAX-Projects.

Today I can introduce you ShrimpBaguette from Beast Garden.

As always, take a cup of coffee, it's a long read.

Have fun!

1. Hey ShrimpBaguette, tell us a little about yourself. What is your background in crypto, NFT's and gaming?

I have been in Crypto for about a year and only joined the WAX community in April with the big Alien Worlds Binance hype.

It somehow feels like I have been here for a lot longer. I have found many friends and made some amazing connections. WAX certainly feels like home to me. With no transaction fees I think it is the best blockchain for gaming.

I have always been a gamer and I have always been interested in creating games myself. When I was in elementary school I did not have the necessary skills to develop games, but I created a "Text-Adventure" simply by creating folders, naming them like the choices you have to make and putting text files with a bit of story inside. If that counts, this was the first game I ever made.

A few years later I started to learn Visual Basic and created a text-adventure with message boxes. Shortly after small games like pong or Tamagotchi for PC followed. I wish I still would have those games around somewhere as they were hilariously bad. For Desktop games I now use Unity but I only learned that for fun and I have not published a game I built with Unity. If you want to, I can show you a short clip of a space RPG I was developing though.

Of course, I also played a ton of games myself. I loved the original Pokémon red & blue for the Gameboy and enjoyed games like Anno, Diablo and World of Warcraft. I have also worked in the gaming industry for a few years but never as a games developer.

2. If you would have to explain Beast Garden in 3 sentences what would it be?

In Beast Garden you need to find your most effective team of beasts against your opponent to win prizes and gain experience. This enables you to tame new beasts, grow your garden and ultimately evolve your beasts to more powerful beings. In tournaments, you will be able to compete with other players for prestige and amazing rewards.

3. What is your favorite part about Beast Garden?

I really like that you need to think about what you are doing in Beast Garden. Which team should you send into battles? Which fruit combination should you try in the evolve-minigame? Have a good strategy and you will have an advantage over other players.

4. Many people have ideas, what made you believe in trying to make Beast Garden a reality?

Creating games has always been a passion for me but it was a huge step for me to decide to really go for it. With Beast Garden I want to create a game on WAX that I personally enjoy. As it seems a lot of other players like the idea as well, and I am so happy that we have grown to be such a nice, helpful and big community.

5. Is the comparison Beast Garden to Pokemon fair?

There are elements in Beast Garden which we already know from other monster-tamer games. I think that in some areas the comparison would be fair but in others it would be very far-fetched. Believe it or not, the idea that started Beast Garden was not Pokémon and I guess that our battle system as well as other systems work very differently.

6. Which idea was it, that started Beast Garden?

I do not know if this feature still exists in World of Warcraft, but at least a few years back there was a "missions table" where you could send your followers on missions to retrieve some loot. This was the base inspiration for Beast Garden but it has indeed become unrecognizable, as the only concept left from that is the "team bonus", which increases your damage if you select a team with good potential against your opponent.

7. Who is working in your team right now?

First of all, a big shout out to our Moderators and Community Managers Morgoth, sMi, Len Sapnit-Cudal aka. Elena Hitomi and Lucian Munteanu aka. Obocrypto. Without you I would really be lost.

Amj and Lord of the Shrimps are keeping our Discord clean of Bots and Multiaccounts. They are always working so hard, and I really appreciate it. Especially now with the whitelisting they will be very busy.

Then we have Duy Luong who has developed most of our Smart Contracts like the Beast Bounties, Alpha Auctions, the Battle System and the basic Reward Payout System. He is very easy to work with and I enjoy it a lot.

Our Artist Cuneyt Senyavas is simply amazing. You all already got to see the work he is doing, and I think the art really speaks for itself. He is currently working hard to complete all the artworks for season 1.

Then there is Sam Stuttard aka. SammySnake. He is always so modest, but I really would not know what I would do without him.

Then finally there is Izay21, who is the developer of our staking system. Without him we could not earn any tokens in Beast Garden. He is also working on some other very impressive projects like CPU lending, and he is the creator of the land share contract in Alien Worlds.

For the frontend we have Matheus (who is not yet represented on the Team Page on our website) but he is doing a fantastic job just like everybody else on the team. I cannot wait to show you his work in the future.

8. Is Beast Garden bot proof?

I would love to answer this with a "yes" but in all honesty something like "bot proof" does not exist. There will always be ways to use a bot. The question is, if using a bot makes sense in a game. In Beast Garden we have designed the features with multi-accounters and botters in mind, so that you won't have any advantages using multiple accounts. It also won't be necessary to use a bot. If you do not have the time to play on one day, you can simply do it the next day just as good. We want everybody to have fun in Beast Garden and not bother you with a strict schedule of when you need to play.

9. Most items like taming cubes, untamed beasts etc will we winnable through adventures, not pack sales, right?

In the very first version of Beast Garden these items will not yet exist. But later the taming cubes, untamed beasts and seeds will only be winnable in the game. We also want to introduce beasts which you can only find in-game and will NEVER be available in any pack sale to reward those who actually play our game.

10. Why did you choose to make battles 3 vs 3?

In our battle system you need to find the best combination of your beasts elements and abilities against your opponents beasts elements and abilities. If it would be 1v1 it would be way too easy to find a good response to your opponent. 2v2 also felt too easy while 4v4 already felt a bit messy and "too much". To answer your question, we just tested how it feels to play. We have also created an Excel File in which we could simulate these 3v3 battles and even ran Excel Beast Garden tournaments with our Discord members which gave us a lot of insight, and we were able to improve the player experience before Beast Garden even launched.

11. In one month there will be the first pack sale from Beast Garden.

What kind of prices can we expect?

What will be inside those boxes?

In the first sale we will sell the base evolutions of our season 1 beasts, which will be stakable for FOCUS (the token required to play battles) and of course they can be used in battles themselves. There are 14 different base evolution beasts so far, but we will create a lot more in the future.

We will also add a Beast Bounty inside the largest packs, with which you can earn a part of the collections trading fees from secondary sales on Atomichub.

We have not released the prices yet, but I think there will be something for everyone. The final prices and sizes of our packs will be revealed in the coming weeks before the sale.

12. How does the whitelisting process work?

In Beast Garden we have 3 different Whitelist levels.

Level 1 Whitelist: Reserved for players who participate actively in our Discord.
Level 2 Whitelist: You can blend a Beast Garden Silver Token into a non-transferable Whitelist Pass on Neftyblocks.
Level 3 Whitelist: Simply use the sign up form here: https://beastgarden.io/whitelist.html

Each account on the whitelist will be checked by our Beast Garden Security Team. If there is evidence of botting or multi-accounting we will revoke the whitelist privileges for this account.

13. How much time per day do you think we have to put into Beast Garden?

This will depend on how many assets you own in Beast Garden. An average player won't spend more than 10 minutes per day in Beast Garden when the first version is launched. Once we introduce tournaments this will however change for those who enjoy PvP and want to participate. We want to create an experience where nobody is forced to spend a lot of time in Beast Garden but if you want to you can take the time, enjoy the game and get slightly more out of the game.

14. You say the Beta should be out in November, do you think that's realistic?

The plan for Beast Garden was to only make a sale if we have something playable soon after. There have been so many projects which took WAX and did not create something. At least on the Smart Contracts the first version of Beast Garden is already playable and contains these features:

- Staking

- Trainer Battles

- Alpha Auctions

- Reward Payout (ALPHA)

We are currently working on our website to connect the frontend with the backend. Is it still a lot of work? Yes, but we are working hard to get everything ready in time.

15. What are your plans for the next season? Or when do you expect a 2nd pack sale?

The next pack sales will be in the weeks following the launch and will contain the springs and plants for Beast Garden. I hope to start the second season with the launch of the tournaments. We also have great plans for the seasons to follow to make the Beast Garden world feel more alive.

16. What kind of games are people playing who will love your game?

I don't really think you need to be into a specific type of game to like Beast Garden. If you enjoy a game where you have a think a bit to make the right decisions, then Beast Garden is for you. I would recommend to check out our whitepaper https://beastgarden.io/whitepaper.html if you think it might be for you.

17. Last question, what are your favourite blockchain games you look up to at the moment?

I really wish I could find more time to dive deeper into more blockchain games and learn what they are all about. Currently the only game I am actively playing is Nova Rally. I can play it whenever I want which is great for me. I also think that the future for Nova Rally is looking bright and the best is yet to come. I am also looking forward to the launch of FightLand as it sounds like such a fun concept. There are so many more interesting projects coming, and I am very excited for the future on WAX.
