Zeneta Everhart, whose son survived a mass shooting in Buffalo, New York, is running for a seat on the Buffalo City Council to disrupt the city's stagnant politics and address the systemic racism that led to the shooting. Everhart aims to tackle the disparities faced by the Masten District, where the shooting occurred, including poverty, health disparities, and lack of resources.

She has started a book club to educate children about diversity and inclusion. Everhart's campaign focuses on racial equity and ensuring policies enable Black communities and communities of color. She believes that local activism and political representation can bring about meaningful change.
