Lithuania is facing a major political scandal involving politicians' expenses just ahead of its hosting of the NATO summit in July. The scandal revolves around the creative use of expenses by municipal council members, including claims for travel costs during strict COVID lockdowns. The scandal has ensnared three government ministers, one of whom has resigned.

Lithuania's Foreign Affairs Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has called for a "reboot" of the political system through a snap election or the government's resignation. However, Landsbergis assured that the scandal would not affect the NATO summit, stating that any changes would occur after the summit concludes.

In a related matter, Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš has urged NATO leaders to make clear decisions to strengthen the alliance's eastern flank during the upcoming summit. Kariņš emphasized the importance of credible deterrence through fundamental forces, capabilities, and a clear command structure.

The European Parliament has opened an investigation into allegations of harassment against Belgian MEP Assita Kanko. The European Central Bank celebrated its 25th anniversary, with European presidents attending. Ursula von der Leyen used her speech to pitch for her reelection and emphasize the importance of delivering on the EU's commitment to a sustainable future.
