Upland ABC

By DeSjaak | uplandexplorer | 21 Jun 2021

Welcome to the Upland ABC!

With an entire virtual universe, there also comes a lot of lingo. Specific words used in and around this game. Some easy to understand, some a bit more complex. Time for a glossary, containing an extensive list of words you may come across while playing Upland.

Note that this is a combination of official words used in the game and the unofficial lingo that is being used by the community of this game. As this game and the community around it keeps developing, so does this list (if you are missing a word or information becomes outdated due to new developments, please let me know in the comments). Also: when you start playing this game it is absolutely not necessary to know the meaning of every word in this list, just use it whenever you feel like it.

A

Achievement badge

An achievement badge is literally what it says it is: a badge that shows what achievements you fulfilled. It is shown on your profile next to your block explorer.

Airport terminal

One of the modes of transportations through Upland is by plane. Because of the hub system, it is not always immediately possible to take a flight, you may need to travel to a hub city by another mode of transportation first. Air travel is relatively expensive. A plane ticket from San Francisco to Manhattan is 2580 UPX and takes about 45 minutes. Terminals can be owned by players, which are very valuable.

Alcatraz

If you don't play by the rules, you may end up in jail. The jail is situated in San Francisco, on the prisoners island Alcatraz (if you search for it on the map you will probably see some prisoners there, marked by the J symbol. The prison sentence is determined by the Upland team. Most of the prisoners ended up there because they hold multiple accounts and/or sold numerous property below mint price (to create one rich account or to manually stay below the FSA limit). No worries, if you just play by the rules you will never end up here. You can find the player conduct here.

AMA

AMA stands for Ask Me Anything. Within the Upland universe it is mainly being used when the founders of the game want to share new elements of the game and/or are open to answering questions from players. You can find the last Founders AMA on the Upland YouTube channel.

Avatar

An avatar is an icon that represents a person on a digital platform. In the world of Upland the avatars are called Block Explorers (see Block Explorer for more information).

B

BE

Abbreviation for: Block Explorer.

Blockchain

Blockchain is a technology that is a bit too complex to explain in full here, but I'll try to simplify it. It is a technology that records information in a decentralized way. That means it is not one single institution that keeps track/is in control of the information, it is being done by numerous different points. That makes it nearly impossible to cheat that system, because you cannot hack/change/cheat at all these points at the same time. An example is cryptocurrency and the trading thereof, that's all being facilitated and tracked by blockchain technology. All of the information in Upland (property ownership, trades, etc.) is being minted on the blockchain as well. This system is not entirely decentralized (yet), but it does make sure that no one can cheat this system. It is not possible to secretly edit the "Upland admin", because it is on the chain. Upland runs on the EOS blockchain. Have a look at the chain data here.

Block explorer

The Block Explorer is the name of your avatar in Upland. It wanders/floats randomly over the map, or you could move it yourself with sends (see: sends). You can choose the look of your explorer out of a selection linked to your status (as a visitor you can choose from six icons, as an Uplander 16 extra options are added, etc.). There also is the option to earn/win/buy limited edition Block Explorers (at this time only through special events). This is not only for profile personalization, but may also be worth money in the future, as they are registered as a special NFT on the blockchain.

Block explorer shop

Upland has announced they are working on Block Explorer Shops: a marketplace for explorer NFTs. In the future you will able to buy and sell Block Explorer NFTs.

Block story

This is the backstory behind limited edition block explorer. This is part of the metadata of this NFT on the blockchain.

Boost

A boost is a multiplier of your earnings you collect on your properties. You can get a boost by fulfilling collections with your properties (see: collections). The more rare the collection is, the higher the boost can be. Some collections even multiply your earnings by 3X! You can rearrange your properties within the collections at any time (for free), so make sure you try to make this as profitable as possible by always having the highest boost you can get.

Bus terminal

One of the modes of transportations through Upland is by bus. Because of the hub system, it is not always immediately possible to take the train, you may need to travel to another city by another mode of transportation first. If you want to leave Staten Island, you can take the bus to Brooklyn. This bus ticket is relatively cheap, at the moment 20 UPX and takes about 4 minutes. If you want to travel further you will have to continue your travel by train and airplane if you want to head to the west coast. Terminals can be owned by players, which are very valuable.

C

Chief Executive

Chief Executive is the sixth status level. Once your net worth is 100,000,000 UPX, you are qualified to upgrade from Executive to Chief Executive. It is a very exclusive level, released in June 2021. There is no level above this (yet).

City hall

City hall is an important location in Upland. This is the location where you can apply for custom items when you upgrade to Director or (Chief) Executive. At the moment the only city hall is in San Francisco. The address is 1 DR CARLTON B GOODLET PL, San Francisco, USA.

Classic treasure

Classic treasure discovery has a full arrow visible from all of the minted properties, while you are hunting for a treasure. Also see: treasure hunting.

Collection

A collection in Upland is a set of properties within a certain frame, that will give you a bonus + a boost. These are already pre encrypted on the EOS blockchain, so no one can make changes to these sets afterwards. Examples of collections are to hold a number properties within a specific neighborhood, having two police stations in Brooklyn or in general having 3 properties on the same street. The first time you fulfill one of these collections you receive a one time UPX bonus. On top of that, you also receive a boost to your earnings while you have that collection fulfilled (see: boost). Also good to know, properties who fall within a collection tend to sell for a much higher price. The lowest collections are standard (blue), then you have limited collections (purple), exclusive collections (orange), rare collections (red) and ultra rare collections (yellow).

Covert treasure

Covert treasure discovery only shows arrows on properties owned by other players while treasure hunting. So you will not see any arrows on your own properties. Also see: treasure hunting.

Community pool

This is one of the pools that Upland uses to construct the economy (also see: token pool, Upland pool). The community pool is the pool of UPX based on in-game activities. For instance, the fee you have to pay when you trade a property or the costs of travelling, that UPX goes into the community pool. The UPX you receive by getting the earnings of your property or finding a treasure comes out of this pool. 50 billion UPX have been minted for this pool. You can check the current value at the EOS blockchain here.

D

Database

There is no official Upland database (except from all of the information that you can find on the blockchain, but that is quite technical to figure out), but luckily there is a very clever community around it with individuals who created community tools. You can find databases of properties, neighborhoods, market floormedian markup, etc. on UPX.World or Up2Land. Starting October 2021 these were offline and teams of players are currently working on new databases.

Development

Property development is a new feature released end of May 2021. Before that, you could only own, sell or trade a property. With the development feature it is also possible to now build something on your property by using spark (see: spark). Currently you can build a select number of building types that do not have utility yet, but they are expected to have utility in the future.

Director

Director is the fourth status level. Once your net worth is 1,000,000 UPX, you are qualified to upgrade from Pro to Director. This status grants you the possibility to apply for a custom block explorer at city hall. The Upland design team will create a custom design based on your preference. Currently you also receive 0.5 spark when upgrading. Once your net worth reaches 10,000,000 UPX, you are qualified to upgrade to Executive (also see: Executive).

Discord

Discord is a digital platform aimed at communities with chat possibilities and more. It is used by many game communities and a big part of the Upland community uses this platform as well (the Upland game itself has no chat possibilities at this moment, so that's where Discord is a great community based substitute). It is not mandatory to join Discord if you are an Upland player, but it does add an extra layer to it (and the community is very helpful!). There is one official Upland Discord, but besides that there are also multiple community driven Upland Discord servers that have their own added value to the game.

Discovery range

Discovery range is the (invisible) circle around your block explorer. If you are close by an available property that is within your discovery range, you have access to it. For instance with sends, they also have to be within your discovery range to be able to collect them.

DYOR

DYOR stands for Do Your Own Research. This abbreviation stems from the cryptocurrency world, but of course is relevant for every part of your life, also in Upland. DYOR means you do not blindly copy the opinion/advice of someone else, but that you also do your own research before making an investment. Databases could be a good tool to do that.

E

Earnings

Earnings is the 'rent' you receive while holding a property. The technical term for it is "recurrent earnings". This UPX comes out of the community pool. This is approximately 17.28% of the mint price. Therefore, bigger properties tend to have higher recurring earnings. If you open a property and click on 'more' it reveals the amount of earnings a specific property yields. This is the amount per month, but it is paid out per 3hrs. You can collect it every 3hrs by clicking on the button in the right corner (below the GET UPX button). You do not have to collect the UPX every 3hrs, because it will just add up until you click on it. You can boost the amount of earnings per property by fulfilling collections.

EOS blockchain

The blockchain protocol Upland is based on is EOS.io (not to be confused with the EOS token, which is the cryptocurrency that runs on the EOS blockchain). EOS is a third generation open sourced blockchain that works with a Proof-of-Stake/PoS algorithm (an alternative to a Proof-of-Work/PoW algorithm, with  a big difference being that with PoS there is no mining by GPU power). The EOS blockchain is a decentralized infrastructure that allows people to create blockchain based applications, like Upland.

Executive

Executive is the fifth status level. Once your net worth is 10,000,000 UPX, you are qualified to upgrade from Director to Executive. This status grants you the possibility to request a custom 3D object at city hall, which you can place on your own property. Once your net worth reaches 100,000,000 UPX, you are qualified to upgrade to Chief Executive (also see: Chief Executive).

F

Fair Start Act

Fair Start Act (or: FSA) is a measure the founders took in 2020 to help new players to find cheap properties. A specific selection of all properties is reserved for starting players under the Fair Start Act (approximately 15% of High Tier cities, 50% of Mid Tier cities and 75% of Low Tier cities). These FSA props are shown on the map by having the letters FSA on them: light grey if you are out of range, light green when you are in range (also see: database, to easily find available FSA properties and more). You can mint unlimited amount of FSA props (as far as you have enough UPX available) when you are a visitor or Uplander. When you have net worth over 100.000 UPX you can no longer mint FSA properties. For selling FSA properties there currently is a limit of 2 sales per week (see FSA reset).

Fiat

Fiat is actually a latin word, meaning "let it be done", but what we are aiming at here is fiat money. Fiat money is the currency we all know as 'regular' money. If we talk about fiat in or around the Upland game, we probably mean $. USD is fiat money, whereas UPX is not.

Fiat out

Fiat out is the possibility to convert your in-game worth into fiat money. They started with a selected group of players in closed beta to test a property-to-USD option. At this moment they rolled this option out to everyone. You do need to apply for fiat out through this form. It will take a few days up to weeks (depending on the number of players applying for it) to get approved.

Flip

To flip a property is to mint or buy it and then sell it for a profit. This is a big part of the game, as this could increase your net worth.

Floating

The way your block explorer moves is often referred to as floating. This is because it moves randomly around on the map. If you do want to send your explorer to a specific spot, you have to use sends.

FSA

Abbreviation of Fair Start Act.

FSA reset

When you want to sell the FSA properties you have minted (see: Fair Start Act), there is a limit of 2 properties per week, until the reset. You can also only put 2 FSA properties up for sale at the same time (or one if you already sold one, or none when you already sold two that week). You can take it of the market and put another FSA property up, so switching your properties on sale is possible. The reset of this limit is every week, on Sunday at midnight (UTC timezone).

G

Genesis

Genesis refers to the origin of something. Here it's used as the celebration of the first property that was minted on the blockchain. This celebration is in the second week of June.

H

High tier

High Tier (also known as Tier 1) cities are for instance: San Francisco, Manhattan and Chicago. These are the more expensive cities, who also serve as hub cities. With the newer generations of cities, this tier system became a more fluid definition, as for instance Santa Clara was considered tier 1.5.

Hub

Direct travel between different cities is not always possible, because the set up currently is through a city hub system. There are lots of community based maps on Discord available that show how you can travel through this hub system. For instance this map.

Hyperloop

The hyperloop is a new transportation concept popularized by Elon Musk. It is a sealed tube where the vehicle transports through air pressure, which makes it possible to travel at airplane speed. The technology is open source, so besides Tesla/SpaceX everyone else is encouraged to work with it. Upland made a business partnership with one of these companies: Hyperloop Transportation Technologies. Out of this collaboration comes a new mode of transportation in the Upland metaverse: a hyperloop connection between Cleveland and Chicago.

I

Inaugs

Abbreviation of Inaugurals.

Inaugurals

Inaugurals (short: Inaugs) is another name for the special EST. 2019 collection. These are properties from the first ever set of Upland NFTs, so these are very prestigious items. There are only 619 Inaugurals, so they are very rare as well. Because of this scarcity the value increases every year.

IGN

Abbreviation of "In Game Name". This is for instance used on Discord, if another player wants to know what your name in Upland is.

J

Jail

The place you will end up if you don't play by the rules (see: Alcatraz).

K

L

Landmark

As Upland is a metaverse, it is strongly connected to the real world. That also means that iconic landmarks hold a special place in the world of Upland. Depending on the size of the city, there are 20 - 30 landmarks specially selected. The first landmarks all have been selected by community votes. In the future they may have a special purpose.

Llama

The llama is a South American mammal, part of the camelidae family. Also see: Miles B. Chain.

Locked properties

Properties that have not (yet) been published into Upland. You can recognize them by showing up white on your map, with N/A showing up as price. These can be released later on.

Low tier

Low Tier (also known as Tier 3) cities are for instance: Fresno, Bakersfield and Staten Island. The price range is probably below the price of High Tier and Low Tier, but prices may fluctuate based on the current state of the market.

M

Market floor

The market floor is the price of the lowest property on sale right now. This could be the market floor of the market in general, but also the floor of a specific neighborhood or a collection. If you put your property for sale close to the market floor, it tends to sell faster. You can also appraise a certain neighborhood by looking at the market floor, the higher the floor the more valuable properties in this neighborhood tend to be at this specific moment. Do note the fact that market floor fluctuates, so it can also be a good indicator of the current market (also see: database).

Marketplace

With the marketplace we mean the secondary market. That means all properties that are owned by someone and are now for sale. Before properties are on the marketplace they are unminted, you can put them on the secondary market by minting them and offer them for sale to other candidates.

Markup

The markup of a property in Upland is the percentage of the for sale price added on top of the mint price. So for example: when a property is minted for 1000 UPX and you sell it for 2000 UPX, you sold it for a 200% markup. You can use the markup of a property as an appraisal if you compare it with other similar properties in the neighborhood. Also see database to analyze median markups of specific neighborhoods or look at the average markup of certain collection properties.

Median

Median is a statistical value, it is the value separating the higher half from the lower half of a data set. You can see it as the average of this set. Databases like UPX.World or Up2Land show the median based on the last 100 purchases and current 50 listings (of the market in general, a city or a neighborhood). You can use this to see what the average worth of a property in a specific neighborhood is at the moment.

Metaverse

A metaverse is a virtual space, that converges the physical reality with the virtual. The term was first used by science fiction writer Neal Stephenson in 1992, for the 3D metaphor of the real world in his novel Snow Crash. Upland is also a metaverse, as it is a virtual world build on top of the real world map.

Mid tier

Mid Tier (also known as Tier 2) cities are for instance: Brooklyn, Oakland, Cleveland. The price range is probably in between the price of High Tier and Low Tier, but prices may fluctuate based on the current state of the market.

Miles B. Chain

Miles B. Chain is the mascot of Upland. He is a llama, most of the times wears a yellow monocle and he loves to spread Dalai Lama wisdoms, as the rumor goes that they are probably somewhere related.

Mint price

The mint price is the UPX price you pay when you first mint a property. This price is based on a specific price per UP2 of a specific neighborhood (often based on real life prices in that neighborhood) and sometimes with adjustments based on collections (see this letter from the Upland Team about this matter). After you have minted a property for the mint price, you can sell it for more on the marketplace. You can search for the mint price in a database.

Minting

Minting stems from blockchain terminology, as it is the process of validating information on the blockchain. You can see minting as a sort of notarizing it on the blockchain. In Upland, the first time a property is bought, we call it minting. When you mint a new property, you pay the mint price to the Upland community pool and the property is put into your name on the blockchain. Now you own it! Before you mint a new property it is called an unminted property.

N

Net worth

Your total worth of your profile at the moment in UPX. This consists of your total available UPX + worth of the properties you currently own (the price you have paid for them).

NFT

Abbreviation of Non Fungible Token

Non Fungible Token

A Non Fungible Token (or NFT) is exactly what it says it is: a thing that is not fungible, something that cannot be interchanged because it is unique. An NFT is a cryptographic token for this (most often) virtual 'thing', captured on the blockchain, so that it can be verified that you have ownership of this virtual item. Also, as it is a unique item, it is also characterized by its scarcity (which adds to its value). Think of it as art. A unique artwork has value, is being validated by an original signature and probably is registered in an official art institute. NFT is an exciting new development in the world of crypto that does this, but in a decentralized way on the blockchain. It is for instance being explored to secure the digital ownership of digital art, but also of properties within Upland! The first NFTs of Upland are the properties and the block explorers. That means you truly have digital ownership over the ones you own in Upland.

O

P

Piñata

This is one type of treasure you can find when treasure hunting. If you find a piñata you have to poke/tap/click on it to reveal the prize. This can be UPX (the amount will vary), but it may also contain more exclusive items.

Point of interest

This is an option on your map, that you activate by clicking on this button POI-icon. It shows the borders of different neighborhoods and other points that may be interesting to you.

Portal

The Portal is an additional feature to the Upland metaverse, that makes it possible to allow NFTs from other blockchains into Upland. The first portal was between the EOS blockchain and the Wax blockchain, creating a bridge for Upland collectibles and collectibles from Blockchain Heroes.

Property

A property is exactly what it says it is. In Upland it is a virtual building/lot, you can for instance buy, trade, or collect monthly earnings (see: earnings). The properties in Upland are based on properties in the real world, so they correspond with real world addresses you can view on the map.

Props

Short for properties.

Pro

Pro is the third status level. Once your net worth is 100,000 UPX, you are qualified to upgrade from Uplander to Pro. As a pro player, you do not have access to FSA properties any longer. You do get access to exclusive block explorers, but more special features for pro players are not available yet. Note that there are a lot of features still in development, and some of these are reserved for players with the status of pro or up when they get released in the foreseeable future (for instance: having access to business licenses or the ability to sell Block Explorer NFTs). Once your net worth reaches 1,000,000 UPX, you are qualified to upgrade to Director (also see: Director).

Q

R

Rent

See earnings for the recurrent earnings you receive on your property. With buildings being implemented in the future it might be possible to also earn rent on apartments.

Riot mode

Riot mode is a treasure hunting mode. When a certain amount of Uplanders are hunting for a treasure in a competitive mode (all of the modes except for the standard level hunts), the value of the treasures will double.

S

Secondary market

See: marketplace.

Seller evaluation

Seller evaluation (seller eval in short) is the price the seller of a property makes when they put it up for sale. A seller evaluation is not always equal to the true worth, so always do your own research.

Sends

Sends are a way to have control over the movement of your block explorer. As they usually just float, you will have to send your explorer to a property by clicking on it. Then you can pay a visit fee to that property and use a send to go there. A send is a paper plane you might seen on the map as well. You only have limited amount of sends. Every 24hrs you recharge 3 sends, but you can also pick up a send when a paper plane is within discovery range of your explorer. You can hold 11 sends at the same time, and pick up a maximum of 40 sends within 24hrs. You can send your explorer to your own properties without using sends.

Shilling

Shilling is pitch your for sale property to other players. This is not possible in Upland itself, so you can do this on community platforms like Discord. You can shill using price information like the markup of your property, but also by stating some unique factors of the real world property (beach front properties are wanted, some people collect real world barbershop, but also funny locations in terms of the shape of the property can be a good characteristic to shill with).

Spark token

Spark is a crypto token on the EOS blockchain that is being used as a resource token within Upland. With spark you can start building properties on your building. You do not 'pay' with spark, but stake it to build something (see staking spark). At the release spark tokens were airdropped (amount was based on your status level). Now they can be earned when you upgrade to status level Director or higher, found while treasure/pinata hunting or won during special events. There are also special time windows where spark is handed out when leveling up to Uplander or Pro level, head over to the official Upland Discord server to find out if a special event window is on. In the future it will be able to mint new spark.

Spark hours

Every structure you can build has a specific timeframe it takes to build it. This "price" (also referred to as SpH) is the number of hours it takes for exactly one spark to build this structure. Also see: Spark Token and Staking Spark)

SpH

Abbreviation for Spark Hours.

Staking spark

When you build something you don't have to 'pay' spark, but you stake it. Staking is putting it into the construction. If you want to build a building, you have to stake your spark for a specific time for it to finish (see: spark hours). You can also put your spark into a building of another player, to speed up the process (in the future spark rental will be possible, at the moment it is facilitated outside of the game by community driven initiatives). If the building is finished, you get your spark back. You can also take your spark out at any time.

Status level

There are different player status levels in Upland. Everyone starts out as a visitor, but after that you can level up. Your level is based on your net worth (value of your properties + your available UPX). You upgrade to the next status level by (manually) clicking on the button that appears, once your net worth crosses a specific border. Every player status level comes with its own advantages. The current available status levels are (in this particular order): visitor, uplander, pro, director, executive, chief executive. In the future probably more levels will be added on top of that.

Standard level

Standard level is a treasure hunting mode. You hunt against the clock, so you have to find the treasure before time runs out. You can do one standard level hunt per day for free, after that you have to pay a UPX fee.

Stealth mode

Stealth mode is a treasure hunting mode. In this mode you only see the arrows when you are nearby the treasure. So if you don't see an arrow, you are not within the radius of the treasure location.

T

Tilia Pay

Upland works together with Tilia, inc. to create the option to fiat out. Tilia Pay is used to sell Upland NFTs for fiat money.

Token pool

Upland's monetary policy (currently) uses two token pools, to make sure there is a stable economy: the Upland pool and the community pool. A general overview of the token pools of Upland can be checked at the EOS blockchain, available here. Also see Upland pool and community pool if you want to know more about their differences.

Treasure chest

This is one type of treasure you can find when treasure hunting. Treasure chests contains a UPX prize (the amount will vary), but it may also contain more exclusive items (for instance spark).

Treasure hunt

Treasure hunting is an activity with which you can find treasures (see: treasure chest, piñata). Treasures spawn on minted properties and you can hunt it when it is "active". Follow the color coded arrows (hints) and hop from property to property until your block explorer is within discovery range. Treasure hunting is no simple task, and if you do not own many properties it could cost a lot of visits and UPX. Before you start treasure hunting, make sure you watch some YouTube tutorials or ask for advice on Discord. (Also see: standard level, stealth mode, riot mode).

Trail

The trail is the black 'skidmark' your block explorer leaves while floating over the map.

Train terminal

One of the modes of transportations through Upland is by train. Because of the hub system, you may have to take other modes of transportation to reach your destination. If you want to head west from Brooklyn, you first have to take the train to Manhattan before you can go to the airport. Train tickets are relatively affordable, the train ticket from Brooklyn to Manhattan is 25 UPX and takes 12 minutes. Terminals can be owned by players, which are very valuable.

U

Unminted

An unminted property is a property that hasn't been bought before. If you want to own it, you cannot buy it from another player, but you have to mint it. Also see: minting.

UP2

UP2 is the size measurements of your property (comparable to square meters).

Upland

Upland means a 'higher ground' and is also the name of numerous cities around the world (for instance this ghost town in Texas). But within this context we of course mean the game created by Uplandme, inc. Upland is a virtual NFT metaverse property trading game. This is the official website.

Uplandme, inc.

This is the company behind the game. They are based in Silicon Valley (United States). It was founded by Dirk Lueth, Idan Zuckerman and Mani Honigstein. Currently the team consists of operations in the United States, Germany and Ukraine.

Uplander

Uplander is the name of a citizen/player of Upland. It also is the name for the second status level. Once your net worth is 10.000 UPX, you are qualified to upgrade to Uplander. This is a big moment (including a virtual ceremony), because your account will be permanently linked to your EOS account in the backend of this game (you don't have to create this or do anything special with this, this will automatically be done for you). From now on all the NFTs you have are actually owned by you. Also, you won't be needing a visa any longer. Another plus is that you now have access to the marketplace, so you can sell/buy/trade your properties to/from other players now. Additionally, you still have access to FSA properties. Once your net worth reaches 100,000 UPX this changes, because then you are qualified to upgrade to Pro (also see: Pro).

Upland pool

This is one of the pools that Upland uses to construct the economy (also see: token pool, community pool). The Upland pool is the pool of UPX that is 'reserved' for outside investments into the Upland economy. Which means, when you exchange your dollars into UPX, UPX is taken from the Upland pool. 50 billion UPX have been minted for this pool, you can check the current value at the EOS blockchain here

Utility token

A utility token is a digital cryptocurrency token that is specifically linked to a strict cause. UPX is a utility token, which means that it can only be used within Upland. That means it is not available on external exchanges or can be withdrawn. That does not mean it is impossible to cash out in dollars (see: fiat out).

UPX

UPX is the currency that is used within Upland. You can earn them, or you can buy them with USD or certain cryptocurrencies. The monetary UPX system is set up with two token pools, to keep the economy working UPX is designed to be a stable coin, approximately 1:1000 conversion rate with USD (with $1 you can buy 1000 UPX). You cannot change your UPX back yet, but slowly you can get USD from this game with the fiat out option. Note that you will need to sell properties and the amount of dollars you will get for them depends on the properties and the current market. This might be lower than 1:1000. The monetary UPX system is set up with two token pools, to keep the economy working.

V

Vanilla mode

Vanilla mode is a way of releasing a new city, without any information on collections being available upon the launch of this city. The collections are predetermined and minted onto the blockchain, but this is hidden for players until the collection reveal. That way, no one will know what neighborhoods/properties will be worth more due to being part of a collection (of course, with a bit of research, you could make an educated guess). As a new city still needs to be minted fully, releasing in vanilla mode makes sure there is a more even spread opposed to only minting in collection areas. A few days/weeks after the launch the collections will be released.

Visa

As a visitor you need an Upland visa to stay in the game. That means you have to renew your visa every 7 days, to let the game know you are still active. You can renew your visa to click on the button "renew your Upland visa" in your Upland profile. If you don't do that on time, all of your properties and UPX will be recycled and will flow back into the community pool. Renewing your visa is free, so don't forget to do that. If you upgrade to uplander, you become a permanent citizen of Upland (on the blockchain), so that means you do not have to renew your visa ever again.

Visitor

When you start out, you enter Upland as a visitor. This is the first status level. As a visitor you are not entirely on the blockchain yet, so there are a few constraints. You cannot sell properties yet and you also cannot buy properties from other players on the marketplace. However, if you want to own properties, you can do that by minting new properties under the FSA (see: Fair Start Act). An important thing you have to do is to renew your visa every week, otherwise you will lose all of your digital assets (properties and UPX). Furthermore, as a new visitor you can earn a daily sign in bonus (only in your first week on every consecutive day you are online). Perhaps also good to know, if you visit other players, your visitors fee will only become available to that player when you upgrade. You upgrade to the next level/become an Uplander when your net worth is 10,000 UPX or above (also see: Uplander).

Visitor fee

If you send your block explorer to a property, you pay a visitor fee to the owner of that property. In return, if someone pays you a visit, you receive the fee you set for your property. The standard fee is 20 UPX, but you can adjust it by clicking on your property, click on the three dots in the right corner and click on the "set your visitor UPX fee". If you still are a visitor, make sure you set it to max (and ask for visits in the community Discord channels for visitors). Also note that the visitor fees paid by visitors only become available once you upgrade to uplander.

White Llama Paper

The White Llama Paper is the white paper of Upland. A white paper is a document made by founders/developers of - in this case - the Upland metaverse. It contains the basic concept of the game, with the rules and principles of the Upland economy and blockchain technology it is based on. You can download the White Llama Paper here.
