This article is mainly aimed at new Upland users that don’t purchase UPX in USD and want to save money! There are some useful links for all too further down.
The referral program is pretty amazing if you haven’t signed up yet. Using a link can get you a 50% bonus on top of your purchase (Such as https://discover.upland.me/ukuplander). The Freemium version of the game is ok but to be brutally honest, investing some money at the start is the best way to get moving in the game.
One of the greatest things about Upland at the moment is the community around it. Utilise this as much as you can, seriously. There are so many people who are willing to help out new players, just ask away on either Telegram or Discord (Telegram is still active but the action is migrating to Discord more now).
Onto the reason for this article:
One of the biggest mistakes of new (non USD) players at the start (I’m guilty of this too) is paying for UPX directly through the app version. Being based anywhere where your app store isn’t charged in USD, players are at a disadvantage straight away! For example, 5000UPX will cost £5 in the UK or €5 in the Eurozone. This means you’re paying around £1 more in the UK or 60c more in the Eurozone. That’s just on 5000UPX worth! Spend more than that and it adds up. Remember the referral link if you want 50% on top of your first purchase -

The Solution:
For UK and Eurozone (contact me if this works for other countries too and I will update) the BEST way for buying UPX is via desktop (https://play.upland.me) and using a specialist FX card. These are cards that give you the mid-market rate (or very close to) and don’t charge a foreign transaction fee. They also make great card for spending abroad, I’ve saved £££s by using them. The list below shows some examples, I’ll build this up as I’m told about more.
UK
- Revolut
- Monzo
- Starling
Eurozone
- N26
Sign up for Revolut here - https://revolut.com/referral/willfwhm!ASC
An alternative that doesn't give you as good a rate as the above:
If you don't have an account that gives you mid-market rates and don't want to get one, PayPal is still a better option. Today (8th June 2020) for example, 5000UPX will cost you £3.91/€4.41 using Revolut and £4.12/€4.59 using PayPal. Still making savings but not quite as good. Thanks to Uplander Cybertraxx for the feedback and € example rate.
Crypto
Of course, there is always the Crypto option too...
