Considering the factors behind people’s choice of one brand over another, reputation seems to be more important than advertising.
Advertising makes products look attractive, but it does not assure customers that they will have a nice experience.
Reputation is created by what people get, which is the quality of products, honesty, reliability of services, and handling complaints.
Moreover, customers give their testimonials and recommendations, which also plays a role in persuading other customers in choosing the brand.
While advertising is limited by time and space, reputation is established with the passage of time. It gives customers the reason to trust the brand before trying it.
It is true that advertising is still relevant as it helps people find the product and know what the company offers.
Nevertheless, advertising alone cannot keep customers loyal. When a firm makes grand promises and is unable to keep them, it may not help even if they promote their product endlessly.
A good reputation could also motivate customers to come back and refer others to the company.
However, reputation is not enough as other factors such as pricing, quality of the product, competition, and convenience should be considered.
In my opinion, advertising may get customers to the brand, but experience determines whether there is a need to come back and refer others.
