Ahhh Christian Bale.. Definitely one of the best actors if you ask me, living and breathing each role he takes. He has nailed so many characters, Batman, America Psycho, Big Short.. And the list goes on and one. I just can't think of someone equally versatile.
So, I was quite surprised when I saw on my Netflix feed "The Pale Blue Eye", an American mystery thriller film written and directed by Scott Cooper, adapted from a 2003 novel of the same name. Never heard of the novel before but fuck it, I was still write excited when I pressed the play button. It did star Cristian Bale after all.
The movie is set in 1830 where Bale posts the role of a genius detective:

As much as I wanted to like the movie...I found it to be painfully slow and was bored quite a few times. If it wasn't for Bale, I would have probably stopped it midway through. Dunno, maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea, and judging from the IMDB reviews many others did enjoy the slow build up π Just not me π€£
Other then that, this was a great movie. The cast and acting was superb and the story quite interesting. And it was one of the few movies that the plot twist totally took me by surprise!
Not a must but imo a decent watch. I just wish it wasn't so boring here and there π
As is, I'll give it a 7/10, but don't let that bias you. Chances are you will enjoy the pale blue eye more than I did. Or not π
