So, here's a cool gadget I got a few days ago from amazon:

As you can see, its a USB wifi adapter thingie that can boost your current wifi range. Alternatively, you can use it if you don't have a wifi adapter at all.

Personally,I got it for the occasional boost, especially for my summer house in my village. You see, my 3g sucks major balls there, and I have no land line connection. There are however two wifi networks that I have managed to get access. Totally legally of course.

However, the signal for both those networks is really poor and the connection keeps breaking up which is really annoying when working or watching porn.

So after doing some search I got the BrosTrend adapter, hoping it will help me get a more stable connection and possibly access to more networks than what my laptop currently brings. It's also recommended from Amazon so it can't be that bad, can it?

First, let's see some photos:

As you can see, the two antennae have a pretty big range of motion, and rotate independently one from the other. To be honest, I don't know if this actually has any meaningful effect on the range but I guess it's a cool feature to have.

Furthermore, you can remove the adapter from the extension cord and plug it directly to your laptop or pc.

Clearly, the device is quite bulky and an accident is bound to happen sooner or later so I wouldn't recommend having it plugged in directly.

Build quality
The device feels like mediocre chinese plastic to the hand. Not that bad. Not that good.

If you plan to play with the device daily or use it for war driving or to have it fixed permanently out doors I am sure it won't last the test of time.

However, the quality feels more than good enough if you just plan to have the antenna fixed in one place indoors or if you just use it for the occasional travel. And I guess that's what most people are gonna use this for.

All in all, I'd say the build quality is okay.

Compatibility

I am using windows 10 and the device got instantly recognised and new networks started popping up immediately. It also comes with a cd rom with all the drivers you are gonna need, just in case you have no internet or whatever.

Does it do shit?
And now to the golden question. Does this thing really boost wifi signal? Well, here's the wifi networks that I can typically connect to with my laptop:

The first two networks are from my router. I have no idea where the other two come from. This is pretty normal actually, considering where my house is located. The closest village is about 1 km away from me and the closest city is 5 km away. Now, let's hook my new baby:

Boom! A new world instantly opens:

And that's just half of the new networks that popped up! I was too lazy to take more pictures! And I bet the doubled glass in front of the antenna did reduce the strength of the incoming signals. When I took my laptop on the balcony and hooked up the antenna the numbers of networks and their strength significantly increased!

Final thoughts

All in all, I'd say this is a pretty nice gadget with an amazing range, at least when compared to the one regular laptops provide. Yeah, the build quality could be a bit better but hey, it costs less than 30 $!
