Homework as reinforcement and exercise for our children.

Education is one of the most important things we can provide for our children and young people and Even for adults. Education, information and the search for knowledge should always be a top priority. Without education and the search for better knowledge, we end up stagnating in life, whether because of our social life or even to seek new opportunities in a job, or things like that. We always need to try to learn more, have the desire to acquire knowledge and that this never goes away.

Therefore, if we want to prioritize education in our lives, we need to force ourselves every time scenarios and problems arise and, with that, we need to put our heads together to think of solutions. I think this is the best way to learn something, in practice (I've never been a big fan of theories, I really like to go straight to action) and for that reason, a subject related to education has always been controversial: homework. Many people think that we should no longer give these tasks at home, but I totally disagree with that, precisely because nowadays, anything that forces our children to think is worthy of protection.

As the father of two children, I know all too well how difficult it is to deal with cell phones, tablets, computers and television on a daily basis. In my time, there were fewer things, but today, everything is a huge distraction for them. Therefore, what they learn at school is not enough, I always see it that way. My daughter has some difficulty with math and even though she knows how to do the math and everything else, she feels insecure, she gets really nervous sometimes when doing her calculations and I usually tell her that if she is not learning enough at school, she needs to try harder at home, which I know she doesn't do very often.

You need to keep a close eye on them, you need to explain the importance of homework, tests, each book given to them to read, all of this is a form of exercise, of putting your mind to work so that you can work with what you learned in class. At the gym, you have an exercise routine to strengthen your muscles, right? Why do you think it would be any different with our minds? If there is no effort, there is no gain!

That's why I'm a big advocate of homework. I always tell my children to focus as much as they can, to try to do everything without distractions and without using their cell phones, so that they can push their minds as much as possible. When I get home, I usually help my daughter who has left some homework pending. This is actually good, because on top of everything else, I still have some father-daughter time with her, helping with math or interpreting texts in our Portuguese language. So, I think that if there were a school system that didn't send homework, it wouldn't be great for students.

Finally, one point I really advocate is a school system where all schools were full-time. I think that would be the best way to teach everyone. Learning and then having extra support, homework could be done during the period when there was no studying or that also had their correct time to do it, in any case, I think that abolishing homework would never be a good way to teach and exercise the minds of our children.
